Hey guys. I just put a new 800 Mhz outside antenna 25' in the air.
Please let me know if you think my COBB County feed is any better.
Thanks!

Just curious?

What type/make/model antenna did you install? Is it mounted on a tower, mast, or building structure?

Should there be a link for a feed?

Any pictures?

I just used a RS 20-176 VHF-HI/UHF antenna and cut it down to 13' for 850 Mhz. I put that on a ten foot mast on top of my two story house. I think it may be working to good. I wanted to optimize a stubborn simulcast/multi-path I have, but I'm not sure I notice much difference from the antenna on the pack of the scanner.

I thought your feed sounded fine to begin with (volume could be turned down a tad bit) Had you been using the stock antenna until now? In Kennesaw you should have really good reception (I do usually) unless your on the south side of town, I could understand you having some issues down there.

baley: how did you come up with the calculation of 13 inches for the 20-176 antenna. i am having problems with an 800 mhz p25 simcast system with a 20-176 antenna and bcd 996t. i used an online quarter wave ground plane calculator and came up with dimensions around 3 1/2 inches. i built a home brew ground plane and still seem to be having problems with the 800 mhz simcast system but the other 700 and 800 systems sound great. the homebrew is mounted in the attic of my house. my goal is to cut the 20-176 for the mid range of 700 and 800 mhz since the illinois state police's system uses both sets of frequencies.

i originally posted this in the antenna forum but i did not get a response.
i monitor my local 700 and 800 mhz apco 25 system. i would like to cut a radio shack 20-176 antenna for the middle of these frequencies.
i figured it would be somewhere around 821.0000 mhz and the radials would be around 3 1/2 inches.
i was wondering, should cut or just remove the two radials for the upper bands of the antenna?

sorry for the interruption of you post but i thought you may be able to give me some advice.
thank you.

Thanks guys.
Rmiller818, Yes I was just using the stock antenna on the BCD996XT with the scanner sitting on the kitchen table. Mama wasnt happy with that setup. I did turn down the volume two notches and I think it did make it sound better, thanks.
Kc9neg, I will have to look at the bookmark for the web page I used for the calucatioins when I get home tonight. It gives you the option of all wave lengths. I went with a full wave antenna. I knew 800Mhz wasnt going to be very big anyway so why not go for a full wave. I just left the two small radials on the antenna. I dont know if it helps or hurts.
