I may be moving to Bozeman, the feed will be very helpful until I get my stuff set up.
Any word on when they might go digital?
Thanks,
E.P.

Good luck on your move! Bozeman is still a great place. No word on when, but I do know almost all the LE have the new digital radios. MHP car to car is encrypted from time to time. I know Bozeman will be switching over soon. Talks with officers confirms this. Lets hope that at least dispatch stays in the clear. I love listening to what is going on.

Thanks, I was there over the summer it is definitely quite the place.
I guess a digital scanner will be a must, what works best for the area, what are you using?
What about MSU’s communications?
Thanks for any information.

I guess digital is the way to go unless the go full encrypted. I have a Uniden 396, but don't use it much. I use my ham gear the most. Actually an old ham radio is providing the feed.

MSU is open in the clear. Not sure if or when they will go digital. I listen to them often since I attend MSU.

I noticed there was more traffic, do the other dept. fire etc... use 10 codes as much?
Also any update on digital? I do not have a digital scanner and would like to go for as long as possible with out having to buy one. If I do get one it will likely be a pro-106.
Thanks for any info.

I second that. Thanks for adding the sheriff North ch.
Belgrade and the other small communities PD use sheriff North, as Fire North channel has most of the dispatch for the Northern Gallatin co FDs, once the department is organized/responding they will switch to a Fire tac channel. Usually calling out "ops on G(gallatin) F -tac1". Fire Departments hardly use the 10 codes, but do alot of readbacks(conferming of the conversation)
Check out the wiki for the county. I'll work on getting the list of the "10" codes into the wiki as most of them are a 3 digit code begining with 9. 904 is 10-4. I moved here from wisconsin, back east they used all the 10 codes for the state.
Still analog on 3/22/11.

+1

I added Sheriff's North because it includes the small communities around Bozeman. Never really hear 10 codes on any of the Fire frequencies.

A list of codes would be nice. I am still waiting on a friend (MHP) to get me their list, but it differs slightly from Bozeman. Once you start listening it's not too hard to figure them out though. 901 = vehicle stop, 211 =clear/no warrants, 10-28 = running someone's plate, 10-31 = running a license or persons name and DOB, 10-12 info = traffic they don't want surrounding people to hear...etc

Oh and I'd hold off on the new scanner until you get here and they fully switch. No need to spend money on it. Mine is gathering dust at the moment. Once they go digital there is no guarantee the comms will be in the "clear", which makes the expensive digital scanner useless.

Alright, thanks so much, both of you, I am definitely moving to Bozeman. The info like to hold off on a digital scanner is exactly what I need. In NC the 10-codes are starting to be used less and less, and after I move, in the fall, I would like to get up with one of you and have the area's communications be explained. If you could add more info to the wiki that would be great. I think that takes care of all my questions for now. Thanks again, and I am counting down the days.

Bozeman is in the testing process right now. City PD will be the first ones to move to the new system. Not sure what their policy will be on encryption at the moment.

Have you heard the testing on the air? I haven't been monitoring during the day as much, but still listen in the evenings.

Thanks for the heads up. I was courious yesterday as my 15xt had digital noise on 155.61, and 154.965. Now got the 396t hooked up recording w/Proscan.

sorry I can't answer your question EP204, but logging things all Thursday 4/28/11 w/Proscan.
the only TG that sounded like a key up was 127.
other T'G's logged: 5243, 5201, 5077, 17
switching logging software to Freescan for Friday, and then Bctool+ for Monday.

It's on the air off and on.. They are working out the kinks. It's going to be a great upgrade for those folks when it's all ironed out. Better coverage, more "channels" for comms, and faster response time for the boys in blue, brown and yellow.. Lots of logistics to work out to make sure it's used efficiently.
