Heres a new twist on the system.

I've heard Deputies talking to each other and just now 20 and 24 were telling each other to go to "Tac". Both times, I heard nothing whatsoever on scanning all 8 freqs. Then 24 told 20 to go back to "Tac for a second". I did'nt hear a thing. Apparantly, they do have a back-up police channel, or a specific car to car channel or something, but they've never used the the word Tac before, unlike the VSP. :?:

I've been told that a lot of the features of the VHF system that Powhatan put in service last year were incorperated into the new Dinwiddie system. If that's the case, the Powhatan Tac's are simply simplex channels operating on the output side of the repeater. In other words, you'd be able to hear it on the dispatch channel if you're close enough (a couple of miles).

Again, not confirmed, but just a train of thought.

Agreed Taylor,
I remember hearng someone mention that "TAC" for the new Dinwiddie system would be simply simplex use of the output side of the repeater.

Tac freq.

Yea, thats what it is. 155.6325 mainly, but I've also heard Deputies talking to each other on 156.1050. About 3 or so miles from me that I know of. But unlike their old system, now on the main Sheriff and Fire/EMS channels, it does'nt matter where the individual patrol car or emergency unit is, we can hear it all.

Now that the system has been online for a few months, has anyone gotten any hits on other freq's in use? With the number of freq's assigned by the FCC, I was hoping we might be able to determine more than FD and SO dispatch.

With so many frequencies unidentified, a good project for Dinwiddie listeners might be to try and pair up repeater input and output frequencies.

I had a similar buzzsawing problem on my PRO-96. What I found out was that my radio won't detect digital audio when in the CTCSS or DCS mode. (and I usually enter unknown freqs for CTCSS search)

I wonder if Amelia's new VHF system will be similar.

Another thing to watch may be some of the nationwide VHF freqs like V-TAC, etc. (do I have its name right?)

The Main Police freq. is 151.0850. The Police have a Tac. channel 156.1050 I think, and Fire/EMS use 154.4400 as main, and 155.9400 main conventional in mixed mode. Fire/EMS has a tac. channel also, in digital. They call it Tac2.. I don't know if it's that they have 2 different Tac channels for Fire/EMS, or that the Police use Tac 1 and Fire/EMS use Tac 2. The tac channels only get out to 3-5 miles, and I rarely hear any trannys on them. The Police only use the phrase "25 to 26, can you go to tac".(Example). I almost never hear anything after that.

Amelia?VHF? Tell me more...I'm outta the loop!!!

Yes, Amelia has applied for a number of VHF freq's for public safety. One of the chief's called me a month or so ago for all of our freq's and PL's so they'd be ready to go when the new radios came in. Last I heard, it was still being coordinated through APCO.

thanks, taylor

A little o/t, but in looking at Amelia's proposed system, i guess the number of 40mhz ps users in VA is dwindling (isn't their fire still at 45.something?).

Yes, I think you're right about VHF-low being a thing of the past, espically east of I-81. Amelia is one of the last in the region using low band, with fire dispatch on 46.54MHz.

Can you share the Sound Quality Fine Tuning numbers for Dinwiddie.
I have adjusted mine and do get the voice now and then and they go in and out. I no longer get any static. I am using the Uniden BC250D and live in near Matoaca. I should be able to pick up the singal.

Thanks

From James City CO, I have been using 730 on the sound setting.

I have a BC296D.

Thanks for the info, however, just static at 730. Do you know if Dinwiddie uses 3600 or 9600 baud? My 250D can only handle 3600 where the 296D can handle both both. Just wondering if that could be the problem.

Thanks

A variety of factors influence the Sound Quality setting. Using what someone else uses will not necessarily work in your situation. Reset to the default and go from there.

The Quality setting is 1130. The Dinwiddie Base Station is coming in strong, however, the field units are start strong and then the voice is breaking up. Anyone have any suggestions on what the problem might be?

Thanks

153.7475 mhz., pl 146.2. The repeater transmitter has problem(s). When transmiting my R7000 S meter varies from 4 to 9..up and down and in between. The S meter reading should stablize during transmit at the maximum transmitter peak whatever that is. That repeater operation definitely needs a 911 radio maintenance service call.
