• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Got out of scanning maybe 15 years ago when trunking arrived, always had Unidens. Purchased a BCD436HP for Christmas and was totally frustrated with the programing, when I went to order a preprogrammed SD card the vendor pointed out my area is simulcast. Luckily, I was able to sell the unit and get almost all my money back. Looked hard at the SD100 but after having had the 436 in my hand I was disappointed that the radio itself felt cheap and using my reading glasses, a magnifying glass, and a flashlight I still struggled to read the screen and all those buttons. I did some research and came across the Unication pagers and between this forum and the 5 minute RADIO GEEK YouTube video regarding programing with the Radio Reference download I took the chance and ordered a G5 from Ray’s. I’m thrilled with it! The compact size, the rugged design, the voice clarity, and the easy to read screen make this unit a winner. I still need to do a little creative programming to isolate some of the channels to separate knobs for when the ”action” hits but other than that I can’t believe how quick I had it up and running.

For your creative programming for when action hits. Go into tab 8 on the pps. Activate tg hold and tg blok features. Then if you're listening to multiple talkgroups on a knob and the action hits, you can hold on 1 talkgroup

Make sure you're on v1.31 of the firmware for that feature to be available.

Thanks for the heads up on the tab 8 TG HOLD/TG BLOK settings. Came in handy last night during a 15 minute long pursuit. Listening to Toledo OH. and a total of 3 counties. Toledo alone is non-stop radio traffic. I've run the radio probably 10-11 hours straight and still haven't been able to stay awake long enough to run out of battery life.

One question, in tab D-6 what happens to a channel if you don't drag it into the priority or non-priority list? For example you brought it over from a download then realized you don't need that particular channel. Can you just leave it out there?

Your talk group ID list can grow to many. I have 136 TGID's and some I have programmed in knob positions and some I don't. I actually have a few TGID's on multiple knob positions. I never knew about the D8 TG Hold, I'll have to look into further.
