I was told by an analog enthusiast, you cannot do that..But, If possible, I will do it.. Who has the dirt?
If you mean an ID that tells you what radio you're using, you sure can. Motorola calls it MDC. Others have various names. If you listen to an analog radio and there is some sort of Squwak, DTMF beep or similar, thats the ID. In addition, if you set it up, you can alert a speciifc radio, check to see if it's on, send an emergency signal and even send short messages like Responding, On Scene, etc. The ID is not present through 100% of the transmission like digital. But it can all certainly be done.
Now on a newer 396, you can only decode a P25 or trunked unit ID. Trunked is programmed by system (enable Icall, etc). In P25, the system has to be set up as a Single Frequency P25 trunked system. I've tried it, but it's not really worth doing it to me because it changes the way the scanner functions and you can miss traffic.
