News from Oklahoma Homeland Security

"The initial phase of the project will cost more than $15 million
and connect cities and counties along the Interstate-44 corridor on an 800/700 MHZ radio system"

I thought you might be interested in this news story.
Wonder what type of system they plan on using?

Hopefully it will be a radio system that the counties and small towns can afford to move to in a reasonable period of time.

Homeland Security can't pay the for all of the radio systems across the USA. There is just not enough money in the Homeland Security Dept. to cover the entire cost.

The main goals of USDHS in the radio game is to get interop in its most basic formats,.. ie: Get every agency they can at least one radio that will operate with everyone else, sometimes they may hand out a huge grant to get a whole new system for agencies/entities, and others they give just eneough to get say a base station, and maybe a few portables, or an upgrade, so that interop can occur. Its up to the local jurisdictions to come up with the rest of the cash flow for complete systems etc.

The only problem is the local jurisdictions sometimes want to be completely indepent and and get stuff that cant interop at all or takes an act of God to interop lol.

MACom systems can interop with statewide networks quite easily...

Actually the only issues I have with the whole EDACS vs Motorola vs LTR issue is that no one can interop in a digital format.. NO ONE! You would have to drop to an analog Mutual Aid system..... the whole purpose of APCO even considering P-25 was to get everyone in the digital age on the same page,.. but It aint happening! Anyway thats my two cents worth.
