I wonder how many, if any, will make the switch to 100% encryption for all law enforcement traffic.

Used to be that Hendricks County's law enforcement talkgroups on SAFE-T were unencrypted except for the "32P-HQ" talkgroup, the SWAT TG, and the countywide drug task force TG. All of the law enforcement officers were pretty well trained to go to the HQ TG when they needed a records check. And, they used their MDTs quite a lot for records and other sensitive info.

But, someone decided that wasn't good enough. They encrypted all law enforcement TGs in the county. That said, I have occasionally heard in-the-clear radio traffic on 32P-DSP since the switch to encryption.

Has anyone noticed any Law Enforcement agencies that took this opportunity to go 100% encrypted? Huntington County went big E in January citing this law as the reason.

It’s sad but you’re right.

Hamilton County, Indianapolis & ISP are all business as usual in Fishers.

Hamilton County has had encrypted ops (and car-to-car) channels for a while now. Dispatch is still in the clear.

Indiana dispatchers can't do anything with SSNs anymore, and the last time an officer gave me one was circa 2010. In the early 2000's we used to be able to put an S then the SSN in the OLN field of Omnixx but that was way before Omnixx transitioned to OpenFox. I could see using an SSN to check NCIC or run a criminal history but I've never had anyone ask me for that. Most people stopped having the DMV put their SSNs on their licenses back in the same time period (early to mid 2000's). SSN isn't even on plate returns anymore and hasn't been for years. There's literally no reason to use an SSN.

The darn things were never supposed to be used as identification of any kind. I say publish everyone's SSN, and force the government and the financial industry to use another primary key in their stupid databases. Just my .02
