National Forests in North Carolina

North Carolina is home to 4 national forests: Croatan, Uwharrie, Pisgah, and Nantahala National Forests. These forests are located in all three regions of North Carolina, providing visitors with unique landscapes and varied terrain. Here you can hike one of the oldest mountain ranges in the world and explore the only coastal national forest in the eastern U.S. The Forest Supervisors Office for these 4 National Forests is located in Ashville, NC. There are 8 Ranger Districts: Appalachian, Mars Hill, NC; Cheoah, Robbinsville, NC; Croatan, New Bern, NC; Grandfather, Nebo, NC; Nantahala, Franklin, NC; Pisgah, Pisgah Forest, NC; Tusquitee, Murphy, NC; and Uwharrie, Troy, NC. The communications center is located in the Forest Supervisors Office in Ashville and answers to "Ashville Dispatch" on the radio.
