The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services administers nearly 700,000 acres of land in the state, the National Park Service administers about 800,000 acres, mostly in Big Bend National Park and the Bureau of Land Management nearly 12,000 acres. State parks and wildlife areas in the state total about 1.2 million acres.
