For the Hammy's out here in radio land:

Any opinions on which would be a better choice? I heard the Kenwood Receiver is not quite as sensitive as some radios on the market these days. One advantage is that I can get the TS-2000 new and would have to find a used 847, but is it worth it? Eham reviews have positive and negatives for both.

I own both. I prefer the 2000 hands down over the 847. The audio and DSP is better, the built in tuner is very handy (for HF work - not sure if that is what you are interested in).
If you plan on scanning with it, you should know the scan speed is pretty slow on the TS-2000.
I cannot comment much on sensitivity, but I've had no issues with it on the 2000.

Hope this helps...

Hey thanks for the info. I am steering toward the TS-2000 but waiting to see what they'll go for in Dayton in May.

Kenwood TS2000

In that Line up I agree the TS2000 wins hands down, but if you were going to have to "find" an FT847 then a ft-920 would do just fine and compete admirably with the TS2000. I personally would rather have the 920.
