Some things to remember when dealing with China and other clones: You must have the seller state what FW version (such as 1.10d)
it has and ask if it is legal/upgradeable. DSP-2 receivers for those who are not aware, are the LAST model of the receiver using Russian-originated software. The actual Russian Malahit receivers are now at the DSP-3 model, with some significant improvements, including apparently changes to reduce noise from the screen. But ordering direct from Russia remains a challenge at this point for obvious reasons. Chinese clone makers have done a very good job of adapting the Russian software to various designs and this is the latest one. The problem with all of these is that there are so many options available in the software for signal processing, such as PREAMP and other settings, that for
listening to today's SW broadcasts, you're almost better off using a Tecsun 330 or 990 or H-501. Some people are confusing the MODEL of the receiver (DSP-2 for example) with the firmware (i.e. 1.10d).

I played with one a couple of days ago, V2.40 and it works very very well. It's more solidly built than any AOR receiver I've ever seen. I already have one of the older ones and it's sole problem is there is a ton of display noise when using a whip antenna, but even with a mag mount on my car, it works pretty great. That display is hypnotic, FM stereo is about the best I've heard from a portable, but my ears are suspect at this point. Mine shipped, so it's just a wait for it to show up now. Last one took about 2 weeks.

Where did you order from? Have read v2.40 update did a good job fixing the screen noise.

The youtube video I watched the guy bought it here

I'm tempted to pull the trigger and let this be my Christmas present, but so leary of aliexpress honestly, I don't trust them.

Also, I have a question, how does this compare to say the Eton 750 Elite (or equivalent Tuscan model?) are these the same things just different forms? ==>

Mine is coming from Banggood, hopefully before Christmas, but you never know with stuff from China. I ordered some parts recently from there that came in less than a week, in a little box with stamps all over it. I was shocked. Least amount of time I can remember is about 2 weeks or so.

Saw the listing from Banggood. Never heard of them. Still china though. Let us know how it goes with shipment. Don't trust aliexpress either but know folks who buy from there with little issues.

I got it today. Not bad for something from China that isn't tiny enough to put into a small box or envelope. Battery was 80% charged, fired right up and the first thing I did was listen to FM Broadcast at home, which was great, it sounds very good, both from the speakers and a cheap set of earbuds I had. Signal strength with just the whip was pretty much full quieting on all local and semi-local stations, Detroit stuff was decent, better if I played around with postioning the radio and antenna. Punched in 161.070 and heard NS comms fine, every bit as good as my PSR-500 scanner, but with much better audio. I did a little bit of SW listening in my car, and the 9MHZ stuff was blasting in with the supplied whip. I listened to a very boring SSB conversation in the 40 Meter band by a couple of hams talking about Christmas dinners they were planning. The guy with the Yaesu FT-10 sounded pretty great. The other guy sounded like he had the treble cranked up, pretty shrill.

The thing is built like a tank, very heavy for it's size. The display is great, like all the Malahit radios, but seems much better responding to finger presses than my old ones do/did. Only real negative is there is still some display noise that trashes some weaker stuff. As usual, you can tap the power button and turn off the display, and that turns off the noise. Seems to be a keeper all said and done. Probably gonna sell my older one, the V3 that looks like this. Not bad actually, but the display noise spoils the fun of it. If you are an FM/2M/Railband listener, it's pretty great, as long as you keep away from any local FM broadcasters, they will spoil your day, the hash the one generates on every single portable I've used where I watch trains at is pretty bad, but compared to the mess of RFI at my apartment, it's paradise. Just to make clear, this is the older one:

I've bought stuff from both Banggood and Aliexpress. Other than waiting a long time sometimes, I have zero complaints. I bought an RC drone from one of them, I can't remember which one, and it came without any controller. They sent me another entire box, so I ended up with a spare drone and some more extra parts. The first drone was killed by my friend's dog, who shocked us by jumping about 6 feet in the air and knocking the drone down and that was the end of that one, the other one still works, but the little brushed motors are getting weak at this point, the drone has got some hours airtime on it and I cannibalized 3 of the old drone motors to keep it in the air. 2 years now, not bad. It was like $30.

Can I ask a favour please? Could you pop it on VHF airband and select 8.33 kHz tuning step and tune to 129.4 MHz please? My (original) DSP2 exhibits an issue with using 8.33 kHz steps because the raster is “off” making it tricky for use for airband monitoring.

Mine doesn’t exhibit noticeable screen noise over most of the ranges I use but the frequency issue is a problem for me.

Unfortunately, yes.
in Europe we use 8.33 kHz channel spacing on new VHF airband radio allocations in order to fit more users in. I don’t know if this is in general use in the US yet.

The Malahit DSP2 that I have, running the latest version of the software, exhibits an interesting issue with regard to the displayed frequency.
For example, my local civil airport uses 134.800 MHz for its Tower (announced as “134 decimal 805” as it is an 8.33 kHz channel) but it is not possible to set the correct frequency of 134.800 MHz when the DSP2 is set to 8.33 kHz channel steps. The receiver displays something like 134.7963 or 134.8042 as the raster is off. For clarity, the receiver’s actual receive frequency is exactly as shown on the display…there is no error/drift in frequency, just that the step locations are wrong.

Clearly, using the set for civil airband monitoring here is problematic.

Mine does the same thing, G7RUX. The steps are wrong. I would hope a firmware update will resolve this. No big deal to me, but for you, it's a problem. I'm going to take it out to an RF free place and see how it does on SW, it does fine on FMBC, and VHF high for sure, sound is very nice. I can't find my wire with a clip on it, to toss out my car window (Works very well on other radios) so it will be whip only. I think someone took my mag mount homebrewed SW antenna when they broke into my car back whenever it was, as it's gone or is jammed under the seat. Oh well, it was a hunk of piano wire on a mag mount base. Cost me almost nothing.

The screen noise is made worse by the touch screen, which can be disabled per the manual. I'm convinced that the newest version is almost there, still not quite ready to replace say a decent portable "conventional radio", but very close. I wonder if there is another display type they could use. I would miss the great display if it would be replaced by something not as pretty, but would be happy to get it quiet as a couple of my much cheaper radios are. If there was a way to de RFI my apartment and work, that would be even better. Both are kryptonite to any HF receiver I've tried, noise filters, loops, nothing has helped. I listen in my car, and at a friend's house once in a while on one of my old receivers I sold him, one of the very first Icom R71's made, according to an Icom tech years ago. Modded a lot by me, works great, and actually sounds pretty good too.

Ratboy, have seen that one when I was looking at the other model. Is there other displays options?

The only display I've seen on the newer ones is the same as mine. It's not bad as far as the noise goes, much better than the last one, and light years better than the really early clone I bought that just never worked right, and was only good for FM Broadcast listening.
