Just recently got a 296D and came across this website, so i thought it would introduce myself and say hello. I am very new to scanning so i will apologize in advance for any dumb questions that i might ask...

thanks
Pete

Welcome to the group Pete!

There are several items that will help you get up to speed. First is the search link at the top of your screen. You will find people asking questions that if they would just use the search feature they would have their answer. I promise you .. things around get hashed, rehashed and hashed again. It never ceases to amaze me.

If you have a question about anything, just plug it into search and see what you hit on. That being said, I havent seen a single question from a newbie that could be under the heading of 'dumb'. :) If you cannot find it using search .. go ahead and ask away.

Next is another link at the top of your screen titled 'RR Database'. Use this to search for frequencies in or around your area.

Lastly, if you find the website to be helpful .. consider sending in five bucks or so to say thanks to the webmaster for the time that it takes to keep this site going.

Hey i'm new too!!

Hello my name is James and I am new also.
I ordered a Uniden Bearcat BC80XLT (because the price was right)
and I live in Burlington County NJ.
It seems they use a "Digital Trunked system" and I cannot use this scanner for state police or the local police (below)
Delran
Palmyra
Medford
Can I get anything out of the bc80xlt, and in a few weeks get the pro-96...... in order to pick up state police
Am I misinformed? or headed in the right track
thanks!
James
