What kind of scanner is required to monitor Oakland PD? Digital? AP-25? What is AP-25?

Thanks for that info. I'll hold off for now on getting a Digital scanner ($500.00+)as most of the things I listen to are analog and non-trunking. I believe we are in the first few days of Oakland PD using this new system.

That's not the case.. Whoever you're hearing that from is smoking something they shouldn't.

I think I will just wait until Oakland solves it radio problems. Besides if they are on those trunk frequencies the range is very limited and I am not in that area so I won't pick it up unless I drive around there which I don't. Back 30 years ago or so Oakland used to be on 150.000+ freqs and I could pick them in the outer Sunset district down on the beach.
With this new trunking stuff SFPD included I won't be able to pick them up since I am not close enough and these 800 freqs don't seem to have the travel distance like the low band freqs. have.

Can't get my 996XT to decode Oakland P25 Audio

I'm able to get the talkgroups and ID's to register but I just can't seem to get audio. Anyone had success or tweaks they'd recommend?

To much to my surprise, I;m monitoring Oakland's P25 system quite well the last few days.Great audio and communications seem to be good with no dropouts. Tac channels have been quite active.

The system must be in safe mode? No control channel, but seems to be some digital activity on the voice channels. Anyone monitoring Oakland P25 right now?

I noticed a couple of weeks ago when I checked in on OAK P25 to see if anything new was up and found that Gwin site 101 was down and had been for a while, pro96com listed it as stale, and noticed same as above poster said, what sounded like CC and Voice mixed together on all transmittions and Freqs from site 202 Broadway.

Now I also find NO CC.

And questioned in the Old OAK P25 thread why they would set it up that way... Maybe the long range plan was to transmit the CC on 1/2 the Chl on ALL Freqs on ALL Directional Antennas and the other 1/2 the voice data, that would certainly clear up most of their CC coverage problems they had.

Don't know if they can do that, but Oak P25 has seemed to disappear for now, At least for a few above posters and me. I don't pick them to well at my house anyway, but restricted right in my road trip ability, but will plan one for the future, unless someone else (more than 1) comes up and says that it's working fine for them.

Anybody know if Harris Communications has used a system format such as this before? and if this is what it is, we may be out of luck as far as hearing anything from OAK P25, something new for GRE to work on, just some thoughts....

Oakland has a pending FCC application to license the Site 02 frequencies at Gwin. This would suggest Gwin may be absorbed into Site 02.

Must be the long term atmospheric tunneling (hearing stuff North, not South&East) that effected my picking up OAK P25, Now hearing CC on CHL 5 853.8375 and voice traffic on at least 1 other CHL (that's normal for my place).

As far as the FCC Apps for Gwin, have PDF doc that says March 2012, -->> EXPAND P25 to the include the Gwin -->>Pilot Site.

As far as I know Gwin never really came up at all except WAY back when in it was Simulcasting OFD. This may mean that ALL FREQS "may" be put on Gwin, which would make for a very receivable system.

I am not receiving P25 broadcasts for Oakland Police/ Fire on my GRE PSR 500.

Others have suggested that I may not have the necessary primary and alternate control channels.

I had the scanner programmed by scannermaster when I purchased in December and have since tried to repair the problem using using Blu-Tel Arc 500 software and a Radio Reference subscription.

Is there a problem with the new system at present that requires some special programming to resolve?

I am assuming that the Broadway site is the primary (or only) broadcast site at present .

The CCs that are listed in RR are incorrect, as they have been building up this new system they have changed the CC many times.

My recommendation is to add ALL the Broadway Chls to the "trunk systems" on your "500" find the OAK P25 system, double click on the Freqs section and add all Chls. (this way if they change again you're to covered)
You should be able to copy and paste directly from my trunk list

Hey Bill,

I can do that, however they change every two or three months, don't know why maybe just still working on upgrades.

Back in the time of working on the "NEW" Oak sys at that time it was suggested that DB Admin didn't want to change the CCs just to have them change again 1-2 weeks later or 1-2 months later, for some reason it was thought that the Oak sys would eventually to the CCs that were listed and shouldn't be changed.

That's when I started posting advisements to load ALL of the Broadway CHLs in the CC section of your scanners so that when they changed again you would still receive the sys.

I would still see the seem problem, change to the current CC and nect time they change your scanner is down.

I have looked through other systems and have seen some that list ALL freqs as Alternates, I think this would be an acceptable way to list the Broadway CHLs, I imagine the "c" after the CC and the "a" after an alternate is what alerts programming services to put these freqs in the CC list for this system.

With the above noted planning of bringing Gwin back online I would think that the CC may be changed around a number od more times.

I will submit all the freqs as Alternates and should cover RR members who program their own scanners, and Programming Services as they should put "a" freqs in the CC list.

Very simpy, just put "a" after each of the Broadway Freqs in the DB.

EDIT: also didn't note on submission that the Gwin site has been down for many months, the CC listed in DB for Gwin should be changed to just a CHL not a CC.

3 NEW FREQS ADDED To BROADWAY P25 !!!

Broadway P25 has gone from the original 7 freqs it has had since it came up to 10 freqs.

853.4625 - from Gwin
854.2625 - from Gwin
853.7000 - from Broadway EDACS

NOTE: the audio from the Gwin Freqs do NOT seem to be coming from Gwin. IE: NOT LOUD and CLEAR at my location

Hopefully they will eventually LSM Simulcast from Gwin and we folks up North will be able to hear all.

Adjacent Sites still shows Gwin 101 as Failed,Stale with 303 still Connected,current

There is NO CC on Gwin, the remaining freq listed on Gwin 851.7875 appears from my location to be dead at this time.

Have NOT checked EDACS yet
EDIT--> Broadway EDACS Still Working, just remove LCN 6 (853.7000) You don't actually have to remove it, EDACS still works. (at this time)
EDIT--> Seneca EDACS Still Working - No Changes.

PDF File - Filed by Oakland to FCC to Justify New FULL Gwin Simulcast Site. Check out the LAST page of the PDF (Oakland Consultants say they have 1000 watts, but I think it's typo for 100 watts. Just checked FCC for current lic's 190 ERP @ Broadway and 340ERP @ Seneca)

BTW: They do state that the current system IS A SIMULCAST SYSTEM under the current FCC LIC, which has ALL the P25 Broadway Freqs also on Seneca.
