I've been running the new HP-1 Extreme on Trunked System Discovery mode set to monitor the Massachusetts State Police trunked system. Although it's come up with a few momentary and transient hits (probably either TGID decode errors or technicians playing with radios) I did find a new talkgroup ID which appears to be related to the Department of Corrections or possibly the Sherriff's Department.

TGID 31248 has the following on it "299 Central", "299 10-8 Shirley - 0". "298 Central", "10-8 Shattuck with 4" etc. This sounds like prisoner transport. Shirley, Shattuck, Eastie, Souza, Norfolk, Norfolk CTU, Bay-State, Bridgewater CTU are all locations mentioned.

This sounds like it may be a move or an expansion of the DOC Central Transportation talkgroup (24208). Has anyone else heard this or noticed that the 24208 talkgroup has become quiet or expanded elsewhere?

Before I submit any new info to the database I want to verify it independently (even though I administer the Mass portion of the DB).

Mass State Police Motorola Type II Smart-Zone: TGID 31248

Anyone? Beuller?

It's been active since March out on Site 18 (Mt Tom). For a while it had been patched to 24208 but since 7/6, it has been by itself and 24208 has not been seen on Mt Tom.
I don't know if it is due to the future expansion of Troop into Western MA with the P25 system or if it was for other reasons.

I've been monitoring the Central Mass site for this and it appears to be the only major change in the TRS as far as I can tell. Not being an expert in Motorola Smart-Zone topology I can't tell if this change is state-wide or local but I thought it carried throughout the system.

I plan to change the old talkgroup ID to the new one so 24208 will disappear and be replaced by 31248 with no other changes.

Or, I could rename the old talkgroup and indicate it has moved to the new TGID and just add the new one.

Comments?

It could still be active elsewhere, I only monitor Site 18. I do run Unitrunker and Trunk88 on the system 24/7 and 24208 has been quiet on 18 for over a month.
There are quite a few new TGIDs over the last 6 months. Nothing confirmed for users yet.

That's where this new HP-1 Extreme Upgrade really shines. No computer needed - it records the new hits for you to analyze later. Just picked up Orange, MA PD on the TRS a few minutes ago. Analysis of the addresses and places mentioned confirms it's the Police in-town. See my other post about this.

Ha, just found that TGID myself on the MSP Central MA Zone using my HP-1 Extreme w/ Trunking System Discovery. I don't monitor DOC, so I can't comment on the legacy TGID use. Based on cg's traffic analysis, sounds like the old one has been phased out.

My HP-1 is set to do trunk discovery on the MSP system. Anything that's not in the database at RR gets recorded for later analysis. Fan-freakin-tastic additional functionality to this scanner. I believe Uniden hit a real home run with this upgrade (the paid extreme-upgrade). Well worth it to the scanner nut in my opinion. It's no longer just a scanner, but a tool to find out what's going on and what's changed in the existing RF environment.

There's nothing else like it available to the general public. Bravo Uniden!!!

You can't assume that a TG is being dropped unless you can monitor all sites where it had been seen before.
Just hope that MSP does not go to the newest Motorola P25 technology, the Phase 2 cannot be monitored by any Uniden scanner including the HP.

Found another one. TGID is 41232 and has units like A14, RA16, RA14, R8 etc.

Talked about the Rail Trail a bit and finding a rubber raft along the river-walk somewhere. Sounds like it might be something to do with the Blackstone River Canal river-walk. They mentioned Broad Meadow Brook. Also turned around 2 males that were planning on going swimming. Might be rangers or security of some sort.

Sounds like DCR or EPO's.

Thats DCR 8A according to S Johnsons site
Mass State Police Statewide Trunking System
If I don't see a TGID there, on ScanNewEngland.com or here, I go to a couple different Yahoo Groups. If nothing found anywhere, I then say potential new TG and ask around.

There are a bunch of new TGs in the high 32xxx range that are likely new the "Event" TGs discussed on SNE. Still waiting for a report linking a proper ID to one.

The ongoing Rebanding means every radio on the MSP system has to be touched. That is an opportunity to add, delete, rename or otherwise alter the templates. As a result, expect some old TGIDs to change users, new TGIDs to pop up and perhaps even some new users to be seen.
