Hello,

For the past 3 days when I go to the colorado radio forum, the new messages are not showing the orange new message (not read) icon.

Thanks

I am replying for the general population as the original poster will not get a notification of this answer.

You must be logged in to see "new" posts. It is obvious that the above poster is not logged in.

As a general point of information, unless you are using a public computer, there is never a need to "log out". If you just close the window, your current session is ended, but you will still maintain a logged in status when you go back to the site. (Provided the cookie test is passed.) Doing this will save you making the mistake the person above has made. :)

I see this, as well. I only view the forums from a single computer, and I never log out. I viewed several forums last night. When I re-visited those forums this morning, there were threads with posts that had appeared between my visits, yet they were not marked as "new". Some were only a couple of hours old.

Don,

There is another factor that may play into this. If you stay logged on and stay on the site (in other words you don't close your session) the "new" posts time out after a set amount of time (no, I don't remember what it is, but I remember Lindsay made longer last year sometime). So, if you are surfing the forums and take a break to watch a baseball game (this happens to me a lot :? ) when you come back you won't have any new posts, as they have timed out since the session stays open. Those of us who are mods sometimes have it happen to us while we are actually going through the forums. We are replying or commenting and when finished, go back to the main index and everthing is gray or black.

That's probably it.

What action is good enough to "close your session"? Close the browser (or navigate to some other URL)?

Yes to both.

It might be nice to know that time out limit. I keep finding useful links to other pages here and before I know it, my main screen here has timed out and I have to guess where the new messages are!

Thanks!
Bob

 Just wondering: is there anyway to move the log-in area to the top of the forums page... my experience has been the same as others posting here, I need to re-log everytime I leave rr.com... cookies are accepted from rr.com, possibly the bugs are eating them...

Collier,

I assume you have noticed the link at the top of the page. After logging in, you are returned to the forums. I am guessing that the login has more functions than just the Forums, so that is why it is a seperate page.
