New R6

Got my new R6 yesterday, so far so good, bought it for airband use.

I was wondering how you are liking your new R6 John?

I like it a lot it is used for VHF/UHF airband and it smokes my Uniden not even close. I can say that I would'nt care for it as a everyday radio but love it for airband use.

Do you think it's worth paying another $10 and getting an IC-RX7......? ($199.95 vs $189.95)

I think I would go with the R6, I think the 7 has been discontinued. I bought ARC6 and the PC cable to speed up the programing.

Hell, if I didn't buy something just because it had been discontinued, I wouldn't have half my equipment.

The IC-RX7 is still pretty widely available, but discontinued?--that might explain why it has been heavily discounted lately. I like the RX7's menu-driven display better, but I heard the R6 has a better speaker.

Not that I need another receiver....transceiver, maybe.

I own an Icom R6, I like the fact that the R6 is a proven design.

IC-RX7 is a good receiver, but the speaker is complete rubbish. You need to have it turned up to almost full volume all the time.
