To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I picked up a Moto speaker/mike today - PMMN4022A - and it works well with the RT-950.

Great TX & TX audio, and the plug fits like a glove to the side connector of the radio - unlike the programming cable plug ...

VHF airband only around here, and it sounds great. The speaker behind the keypad seems good quality and does a great job on all modes.
I have the radio, bought the mic you referenced and it doesn't fit at all, the style is the same but the moto side is much bigger, the tongue piece is to wide, does not fit into the groove on the radio. how sure are you about the moto model number? thanks mark :)

The mic goes in at an angle at the top then hinges down and the screw holds it in place.
the tongue is to wide to go in on my mic and even if it did the screw is to far south to hit the threads, the pins look spread out compared to the landing board and i'm sort of at my wits end.

PTT only gets me low short tones, the smaller ptt, will transmit but only on B and now i'm reading that its probably FUBARanyways with serial number 843.

I was reading here that serial number 5xxx was crapped out and deaf with no explanation forthcoming. This is how Radtel loses market, I know they don't care they just swap names and chug along but it still ticks me off.

I'm fed up and returned it today. I don't know why it has to be this hard. The online push with all the nerds hawking it on youtube and the socials got me. I really wanted a radio like this, between fourwheeling and scout events a do all radio is very incredibly useful and usb c to charge is even better but its a pipe dream for me. maybe later when they iron out the hardware problems I'll give it another shot.

Been playing with my new RT-950 Pro for a couple weeks now...

SN:9255B000356
Current Firmware: V0.22 251104
Current CPS: V1.1.1 251011

TLDR
Great new toy... Can't wait till all the bugs are worked out!

My unsubstantiated opinions:
  • Receive seems to be "good" or better in every band, demodulation, or mode I tested
  • LOVE the USB-C rechargeable Lithium battery and USB-C desktop stand!
  • HATE the V1.1.1 251011 or earlier CPS! (at least they getting better)
  • V0.21 251013 and V0.22 251104 firmware versions worked great for me (Earlier versions had ISSUES for me)
  • LOVE the top encoder! (Almost like a real radio)
  • Physical build quality is generally excellent with minor "misses"
    • The escussion sticker around the accessory port not well supported
    • Display cover protrudes from radio instead of being recessed and shielded from abuse
    • Encoder and arrow keys ALWAYS do the same thing instead of being programmable
  • Triple Watch is somewhat neat and useful (...because 3 is ALWAYS better than 2?)
  • WISH the VFO and channel modes carried the frequency over where applicable (looking at 2m Channel then switch now in 440 VFO)
  • NO CLUE what the "Super Mode" does... maybe not for my radio model or hardware version
  • GPS works pretty good (though not high end)
  • APRS TX/RX Unknown (Only beginning to play with APRS, so nothing yet)
  • VHF FM broadcast excellent
  • Long Wave AM Broadcast reception good
  • Medium Wave AM Broadcast reception good
  • 120m, 90m, 75m, 60m, 49m, 41m, 31m, 25m, 22m, 19m, 16m, and 13m Short Wave AM Broadcast reception good
  • 2200m, 600m, 160m, 80m, 60m, 40m, 30m, 20m, 17m, 15m, 12m, 10m Single Sideband (LSB/USB) reception good
    • Not remembering typical or manually set BFOs can be frustrating
  • CW reception unknown (Yet to play with CW mode)
  • NOAA (FM) reception excellent
  • VHF Aviation Band reception excellent
  • 11m CB TX/RX good
  • 10m TX/RX good
  • 6m TX/RX Unknown (Have not tried 6m)
  • 2m TX/RX good
  • 1.25m TX/RX unknown (Have not tried 1.25m)
  • 70cm TX/RX good
  • 33cm TX/RX unknown (Have not tried 33cm)
  • CTCSS/DCS code scanning is helpful
  • Spectrum view is awesome-ISH since I'm still learning this radio
  • Scanning and the other "regular" features I have tried all seem to work as expected
Antennas
  • Pack-in VHF/UHF antenna is "OK"
  • TWAYRDIO 42" Telescoping VHF/UHF antenna works great
  • Diamond RH77CA 15" flexible VHF/UHF antenna works great
  • "Mag-Loop" style 3" VHF/UHF antenna works "OK" but gives directionality in a small package
  • Abree 49" VHF/UHF antenna works great (Very Rugged)
  • Telescoping 27MHz antenna works great for CB, 10m, SW, and MW
  • Long Wire (10m long 22ga silicone wire) antenna works great below 50MHz
This thing is pretty neat in my eyes; it is the new EVERYTHING radio for me, and I expect I will appreciate it even more as I get more familiar with it. All that said, If I needed to put my life on it, I'd bring 2 of everything. But I paid less than $150 USD for the radio and a pile of antennas to play with! ...any professional radio even similar in capability to what this does would cost ~$15,000 USD in Motorola money.

I tried out the Ebay addons for the RT 950, the PMMN4022A speaker mic, fits, and keys, and receives audio, the transmit mike audio is not as loud as the built in mike... The Refuelergy new adapter for TRS and TRRS external speaker mike, is too big, and does not fit at all. Pin spacing is too wide, and the whole case is just a bit too big.. I saw the youtube OM0ET showed an adapter he got from AliExpress, I found out they are not all the same... Hope this helps somebody.... 73s

Good find even as a spare in case the stock screw goes missing, as its not captive in the cover.

Do you know if it receives 30-50 low band? Can it transmit there?

Ive noticed that the audio sounds like some of my other radios do when I turn on the compander, however after checking it doesnt seem like there is a compander setting in the menu. Is this the case for anyone else? Is there maybe a setting under a different name?

My RT950pro will scan in AM from 225 to 260 (then reverts to 200), and also from 330-400 (then reverts to 330). You have to set AM manually, and there appears to be a receive hole between 260-330.
I can't say for sure that it will actually receive in these ranges. I heard no voice, but the scan did stop from time to time on noise.

Thanks for the info! That gap is unfortunate, there is some good stuff in the 260-330 range.
