• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Yeah, that's the theory except when Radtel send you a replacement bare radio to replace the original stone deaf version I bought - excitement, then disappointment to discover it is another deaf version one!

I did query it and they replied with "please send us a video of it not working.......blah blah", same as the first fiasco, no apology, nothing!

I decided not to bother, at least I have two partially working 950 Pros, but I am done with Radtel, other brands from now on, if and when I need anything new,
I got the same thing.."send us a video." Not worth it. And I'm not gonna use this radio for mw anyway. With the appropriate antenna-iow, ditch the stock one-HF works great on mine.

A new version of firmware and CPS has just been released. 0.24 firmware and 1.2.1 CPS.

There's a broken URL on the RT-950 PRO downloads page about version 0.25 firmware from 12/26 but the link hasn't been provided yet.

On a side note: I finally picked up the RT-950 PRO. Audio quality is impressive and the display is very nice. The tri-VFO works quite well and is very snappy when switching between RF signals.

A couple of negatives: the design of the accessory connector/programming cable was terrible. Why not use USB-C? I can't believe no one has figured out how to make radio accessories that use USB-C connectors. My unit's PTT button is OK but a little weird feeling. It's not quite mushy and does click. The click is very light though.

I also could not get the Radtel support software download website to work. The Radtel RT950 Facebook page has the downloads. They show a v0.26. I downloaded it. The 'readme' file shows that 0.25 had a problem with the radio going back into chinese language mode after boot. V0.26 fixes that problem. Here is a list of the other changes/upgrades from 0.24:

V0.25
1、Fixed the issue where CTCSS and DCS could not be used after enabling APRS
2、Added the function to switch zones by long-pressing the left/right keys (Left key: -, Right key: +)
3、Fixed the APRS-TNC function and added a transmission report menu
4、Added the function to display the current time after starting GPS

V0.26
1、Fix the problem where the system defaults to Chinese on boot

Yes that's fine and even naming the zones is easy using CPS

BUT - because the zones are now 99 channels from the previous 64 it means that my zones are all chopped up and intermixed! They can play about and add all these little niceties but why the hell can't they include copy and paste function, surely that is a basic function these days?

Then I thought OK, I will export the data to a chirp csv, edit it and then import it back - WRONG, the columns are pretty much corrupted regarding offset and CTCSS etc - waste of time!

Hmm... I just did that very thing and everything seems to be fine, so far. Did you use the CHIRP-specific export/import buttons at the bottom of the channel matrix screen?

Yes, I did use those chirp specific buttons, strange it works for you? Maybe I will uninstall CPS and install a fresh copy to give it another go.

Of course it would be far easier if Radtel included copy and paste in CPS to make it really useful!

First, I downloaded the current version of Chirp. Then I used the Chirp-specific export button in the Radtel CPS to export a csv file. I then imported the csv file into Chirp, made my changes, saved the file, and exported to a new csv file. Finally, I imported the new csv file into the Radtel CPS using the Chirp-specific import button.

Just received the radio.
This will be the dumbest question on this thread...
How do you get the battery off?????

Yes, I know there is a latch on the bottom.
Yes I have pressed it.
NO it doesn't push in.
Yes, I've tried to slide it while pressing it in.
NO, that doesn't work either .

Yes, I've used handheld radios and removed batteries before. many of them over many years so....

What the secret manipulation of the battery latch !!!!???

Unbelievable.

With the radio inverted, push the tab/latch on the bottom hard down with one finger while gripping the battery with the same hand, and pull the radio body away with the other hand.

It is all a tight fit ....

Thanks VK3RX. I finally got it off. Sheesh ! how embarrassing.

Now, if I can just get the Bluetooth app to work. The app sees the radio, but displays "ERROR" every time I attempt to
identify the radio model, so I can't proceed any further.
It also asks for a "code" upon registration, but no code is available when you enter your email address into the email
space. I keep going in circles with it.
Guess I'll just have to wait for the PC programming cable, which was NOT included in the purchase of the radio.
