Has anyone seen a type acceptance for a new pair of RS scanners?

My local RS recently recieved price tags for a 20-528 handheld "PRO-528" at $169 and a 20-433 Mobile/Desktop unit at $169. They are both billed as "triple trunking" with SS2 and a "PC Interface" which sounds just like the Pro-97 and 2055 to me... Are these just renamed units? If so, a new type acceptance probably would not be needed...

I've seen these tags also.

It is for a PRO 258.

Haven't seen what they look like, but according to the description, it sounds identical to the PRO 97.

GRE and Radio Shack do not have any new scanners listed between January and May 27th of 2006.

I am going out on a limb and say they are rebaged Pro-97 and Pro-2055 with updated logic boards.

What would an updated logic board do?

Able to be firmware upgraded maybe, how about full computer control, EDACS and Motorola I-Calls. {dreaming} :)

Maybe GRE is on the label in place of Radio Shack?

They just re-issued the Uniden OEM PRO-83 as an 84 and gave it a firmware change without needing a FCC approval. The PRO-94 had a PC/IF added to become a PRO-94B, so this could be interesting.

I agree with DaveIN with the following addition; the new logic board would add firmware updates for FCC rebanding. I am unsure about computer controlled scanner models.

GRE has never had a scanner with the ability to update the firmware - is your limb actually from knowledge or just shooting darts?

Or maybe they just changed the model number to get people excited about a non-event.

Radio Shack hasn't rebadged a "the same" scanner with different product codes. The history of the Pro-94, 94A and 94B shows Radio Shack is willing to part of the product code but, ads "a" or "b" to show the different configurations.

What makes sense is the change of the logic board to support dynamic updates.

GRE hasn't had to have firmware updates until ... now. With the FCC rebanding it makes it more necessary than ever to have the flexability to have firmware updates. Pro-97 models need a new logic board to work around the re-banding.

It's possible Uniden is supplying the logic board. As Uniden did with the Pro-94A and B.

The "real" question is will it be computer controlled? That's a feature that many scanner hobbiest would like in the Pro-97.

Apparently you weren't around for the early days of the Pro96 when they needed three...

Traditionally GRE scanners have been upload only PC/IF (with the exception to the Pro96com output). It's time to break that mold and give the scanner enthusiast what they want, full computer control. I'd hope with the talk group problems identified that the firmware upgrades would go beyond just re-banding. And why would it be such a bad thing to give the scannist the option of listening to I-Calls?

While I'm thinking of it, DonS gives the user a choice of what talk group format to see in Motorola and EDACS (hex) talk group display in his WinXX programs, why can't GRE do the same for the radio display in the firmware?

Pro96com control channel/OSW output is an excellent feature, why not also include a mode for 3600 baud systems on the 96/2096 or as an analog system feature for the 97/2055?

LTR should be included in the next "Multi-System Trunking Scanner" along WITH digital APCO-25 audio decoding.

Do these new scanner numbers say when they will be available in store?

So did these new cat numbers show up in the store yet?

Hello,

After looking at the OM for the PRO-528, I find it interesting that it has "Signal Stalker" and not "Signal Stalker II". Could this unit be made by Uniden for Radio Shack?

Noticed that too. Also: Did not see anything about alpha text

Looks like someone spray painted a Pro-94 case black. Not good, if it is indeed the "PRO-528" it has Motorola, EDACS, and LTR, but no P25 is mentioned.... at least in the "preliminary" manual. It also means its *most* likely a Uniden OEM non-digital. Lets see what happens.

It also does not mention 700MHz coverage that would include P25 trunked.

The manual also mentions Simultaneous Trunking Operation — allows the scanner to trunk three trunking systems, Motorola and
EDACS, at the same time, as well as conventional systems.

I also see it mentions a 20-433 that it can be cloned to. So I guess we'll see the PC/IF just as the PRO-94B.

E1 Motorola Type I, and Hybrid
Ed EDACS Wide Band: 9600 baund
E2 – 800 Motorola Type II, 800 MHz frequencies
E2 – 900 Motorola Type II, 900 MHz frequencies
E2 – Hi Motorola Type II, VHF(136-174 MHz) frequencies
E2 – UHF Motorola Type II, UHF (400-512 MHz) frequencies
Ed – SCt EDACS Scat
Lt LTR

Yep, Uniden OEM, good for folks with just analog systems nearby or a need for (Regular) LTR.

Hope it can be re-banded or it's a dead fish for Motorola.
