I wouldn't pay $170 for either of those scanners. GRE seriously needs to come out with a scanner that will blow scanners like the 396T and 996T away. Like others have said, they seem to just be putting old ideas into too many new scanners.

Hello,

After looking at the OM for the PRO-528, I find it interesting that it has "Signal Stalker" and not "Signal Stalker II". Could this unit be made by Uniden for Radio Shack?

Mark

Graphics in manual look similar to stuff for the PRO-83. Most likely Uniden design.

If I was going to design a new scanner. I think I would start a thread somewhere like here, and find out what scanner users really want.

Think about that for a second. Uniden was first to create dynamic memory. Why would they sell it to a competitor?
The relationship or partnership is already there. They might has well take full advantage of it. It's just another vehicle to get product in the hands of consumers. I came from an industry where we would make "Private Label" products for competitors and it never adversely affected our retail end, plus it made our manufacturing end a lot more profitable. The way I see it it, Unidens main competitor would be GRE.

Notice that it is only MSRP. Remember how the 396T had an MSRP over $700?

Maybe so. But then again, maybe not. Dyamamic memory is the only real advantage that Uniden has over Rat Shack & GRE. I think that dynamic memory is still too new and that it would hurt Uniden if they started to offer it to Radio Shack. Dyanamic memory can be used to get those diehard Rat Shackers to switch to Uniden.

I'm guessing that Uniden realizes this and that is why we still have not seen it on any Rat Shack scanner produced by Uniden. Remember the PRO-83 and how the 246T was released a short time later with dynamic memory. If Rat Shack does release a scanner with dynamic memory any time in the near future, I think that GRE will have to produce it for them -- unless Uniden has a patent. Else it will be a long time before we see it on a Rat Shack scanner. Diehard Rat Shackers will have become diehard Unideners by then.

I can see that happening - I am currently looking real hard at Uniden's "Latest and Greatest" offerings. I started with Uniden and may finish or at least continue with Uniden.

From previous portions of this thread plus the FCC data I have compilied my opinion on this scanner.

The good

* Its FM and AM sensitivity are very good for a scanner 1.5mv for AM and FM .5 for ~ 200mhz
* Signal Stalker
* Liquid display
* Battery saving mode
* Different entry beeps so you can tell if your entry was correct or (like mine) an error.
* Triple trunking
* 900mhz trunking

The bad
* No dynamically allocated memory
* No Alpha characters (#$%#$%)
* Can't be controlled by PC/MAC.

I am going to pass on this scanner because of the lack of alpha characters and PC/MAC control. Unless ... Radio Shack lowers the price to $99.97. You know the infamous 97 close out number (chuckle).

Look at the 2054, it took a whole two months before it was introduced (at $169.99) to the time it went to $99.97 :lol:
