new RS USB programming cable

There's a third class of choices:

Casio, Icom, Kenwood, Yaesu and, I'm sure others, make a cable for their devices that use the same technology that GRE does. If you have one, try it. (Most of them require a cheap stereo[cable side] to mono [scanner side] adapter.)

Anyone know if the Vertex VPL-1 cable will work?

I just picked up a 20-047 usb cable that came with a Pr0-96 I won on Ebay
I haven't installed the driver yet, but when I opened up win96, I only see optins for com ports...will installing that driver create a "fake" comm port so to say?....
I do have a good p96 file to work with from somebody locally
