This my first SDR. I purchased from the Amazon link on the RTL-SDR website.

I successfully connected and installed the RTL-SDR V4 dongle and SDR# Studio (1919) on a Mac running Parallels Desktop and Windows Pro 11.

I followed the directions in the quick-start guide and everything installed without a hitch.

I attached the longer telescoping antennas and mounted on the mini-tripod in my desk. I was able to tune in some local FM stations and had some weak signals on AM (medium wave). Nothing on short or long wave yet. I will have to play with the antenna more.

I noticed the FM fidelity wasn't the greatest. Is this a characteristic of the radio? Or are there settings I should be looking at?

I have a lot of work to do to learn SDR#'s features to pull more out of the radio but am happy that I at least have things working.

I will probably have some questions at some point but for now will play with this a bit and learn some of the ins-and-outs.

This is likely due to the SDR software you are using. If you really wanted to hear good quality FM broadcast radio, you can use GnuRadio to build a flowchart tailored for that.

The dipole antenna you bought together with your SDR is not suited for anything below VHF.
So you need another antenna (or antennas) for HF and MF.

I am not affiliated with RTL-SDR.Com , just want to give everyone an heads-ups on their new dongle --

I got mine today. I use RTL-SDR V3 for my DSD+ I tried V4 and it sees it and loads. but then nothing happens. Got the Blog files. then got a currupted message. Will play with it more on monday. but reverted back to V3 to keep my scanner running. Does anyone here running DSD+ have the V4 working with it yet?

Did you install the new V4 DLL file? It is in the DSD+FL base file package.

Where would I find that? I have only update files that are downloaded. where would i find this?

They are available for the Fast Lane version not the free version. Look under the misc tab at the bottom to download them. Make sure you are using the latest version of the Fast Lane.

.

My condolences, have you already reported it to the supplier?
If there is no guarantee, open it up and see what is inside. Send some pictures of the contents, maybe something is visible?

Did you leave the bias power supply on and short-circuit the antenna (via adjustments)? There is a protection in it, but it does not last forever.
Have you tried flashing the eprom (changing the serial number)? That does not really work anymore, with this version.

My blog-V4 (1st generation) works fine and I use it a lot for HF. If I hear an interesting station, I turn on the Icom 706 and switch the antenna. Then I can work the station, usually that goes well (if there is no pile-up) and that works fine on 20 meters.
SDR-Sharp software en USB receiver (dongle) - Pagina 29 - Zendamateur.COM

The stations I receive on the blog-V4 I can also receive on the 706, with the same signal strength.
I live in the Netherlands and work with ease in America and Canada that way. The Emirates and Asia are a problem, but that is due to the location here and my antenna.

So my blog-V4 is not on 24/7 and occasionally I also use the traditional blue and black DVB-T stick (for aviation and VHF).

I had correspondence with Rtl-sdr-blog, they are sending a replacement.

I have only used it about 15 times. Originally I got it because it was a limited run and I knew there would be allot of opportunities to help with "my blog v4 doesn't work" I like to help, it's a hobby & supposed to be fun, frustration can be a major hurdle for some.

I had just compiled the current rtl_433 source (there was a reddit user with a blogv4 having issues with current release) my blogv4 was plugged in and connected to a 1/4 wave gp I use for the 400 mhz range. No bias-t used. It was running rtl_433 and windows made the device disconnected noise, looked over and rtl_433 had stopped, restarted, got no device, checked the safely remove device on task bar, no blogv4, open device manager, no response removing/plugging it in, so nothing showed doing rtl_eeprom. I had never edited the blogv4 eeprom. Linux wouldn't see it with lsusb or rtl_eeprom. No smell of magic smoke.. I connected it to a usb meter, barely any amp pull, ohm reading was way higher then bligv3 or nooelec's
