Hello all! I have recently obtained a RadioShack 2045 scanner! I am looking to listen to Mukwonago PD and Mukwonago FD (Waukesha county, Wi) on my scanner and the frequencies online are not coming thru… any suggestions? Is it even compatible to do that, if so how could I make the scanner compatible without having to buy a new scanner?

Keeping it simple, in one word.. no.

You would need a late model digital scanner. Google police frequencies for.. then put in your locations that you're asking about and it'll take you to the radio reference database. Ignore AI and some of the older frequency listings and just use radio reference database.

The 2024 was a Nifty radio introduced to 1997, predigital scanner era. You could still pick them up for basically nothing, I wouldn't pay more than $50 but it would have to be an excellent condition.

There is a caveat however, Google broadcastify for the locations that you are wanting to listen to and I believe there is fairly good coverage that you can stream on your phone.

Good luck!

I grew up in Mukwonago! Unfortunately that scanner won't pick up Mukwonago PD/FD. The frequencies they operate on 154.3925 and 155.5875 are now digital. They also can sometimes be heard on WiPSN but is also digital

Welcome to RR and the hobby!

The PRO-2045 was a great scanner in its day, and still is for various services that are still analog (non-digital), such as civil and military aviation, marine, amateur radio, railroad, etc.

I would recommend playing around with the 2045 for a while to see if you like the hobby before investing in a new digital scanner. Your scanner has a search feature which can be used to seek out active frequencies in your area.

If you have any more questions, ask away! :)

Thank you for all the replies, I appreciate the help and answers!

With that information, I will definitely need a second scanner. What would be a good scanner to listen to 800 trucked channels as well as digital analog frequency's for my area without breaking the bank, id like to not spend anymore than $100-$150. Any suggestions are more than appreciated!

For our area with Simulcast the Uniden SDS and Unication pagers are ideal, but these are expensive, you'll have to decide it's worth it. Another option, probably the cheapest is SDR and a capable computer, there's a lot of free software out there for decoding digital systems. I've heard of people having luck with the Uniden Home Patrol series, that can change with location just in your home. In our area the WiPSN system is very active,
