cj, i think it is interference from something, as opposed to data

Would you happen to know what type of interference? What would the source be? It seems to vary more than your typical interference.

Most likely a data stream.. I've actually tracked a 243.00 mhz signal to a FAA radar site that was tripped by a phone patch from Tyndall AFB. Made wierd sounds like that.

What was the exact frequency and modulation?

i don't know, cj. the remote to one of our tv's causes interference very similar to that, but it's not continuous like your sound.

have you checked on that website we discussed on #wunclub that has samples of different types of interference?

Well, no thanks to these forums, I finally did my own research, via google, and found that one frequency (243 Mhz) is allocated specifically to maritime EPIRB's. Frequency range 242.95-243.05 Mhz are assigned to this purpose.

Your "own research" told you VERY wrong if that's all you found on 243...Otherwise why would I have been activated by AFRCC to trace a 243 signal to a FAA radar site. Any maritime beacons in there?

243 am is designated as military distress, voice and beacon. There are some EPIRBs that fire on 121.5 am, the others in the 150 range. Now, not to mention the satellite linked 406 beacons that also have a DF carrier and tone. 243 will also fire a beacon tone on 121.5, both am. Typical range on the ground on both is 2-3 miles, in the air, I've personally heard over 150 miles away.

If you had wanted us to help you...why didn't you respond to the questions we asked you? I can read VERY clearly that at least two of us asked the frequency and modulation type.

It sounds like this.

What modulation?

YOU PEOPLE ARE WORTHLESS!!! I'LL FIND IT MYSELF!

You know what people F. YOU and your crappy attitudes. I ask a simple question and all I get is **** from you guys. You know what I don't need to come here, ask a question, get insulted, and feel like I shouldn't be asking questions (which is the whole purpose of a forum). I did answer them in an indirect way, and you continue to have an attitude. I will no longer come here for help anymore, because I can just as well find out for myself. Didn't you ever learn that if you don't have anything nice to say/ or anything worth noting then STFU! I originally asked if anyone had asked if anyone could recognize the sound. A simple yes or what the sound was would've sufficed. And to prove that I my research is right, since you went out of your way to prove me wrong, I went down to the USCG station down the road and asked their radio operator about it. He said that they are emergency beacons used in search and air rescue.

*sigh* Are you done?

Read my post above....That's EXACTLY what I told you they were, along with some other information that I figured would be useful to you. With this regard, you're going head to head with an ICS200 certified, commissioned 1st Lt, MRO and CUL US Air Force radio operator, who has over 600 hours of active SAR time in an aircraft or on the ground. I think I know what I'm speaking about when it comes to distress beacons.

YOUR "distress beacon", as I said earlier sounds like a modulated phone patch interference caused by a faulty breaker at an FAA radar site.

How do you "indirectly" answer a question as pertaining to a frequency and modulation? You either say what it is, or you don't. If you don't remember the exact frequency, and or know what I'm saying by modulation.....ASK AND I'LL TELL YOU!

Let me ask you something else...Did the SP at the gate at the CG Station just let you through to speak to a MRO personally????

Look hothead....Some of us (myself included) honestly tried to help you and all YOU could do was reply with snide remarks. Maturity runs low on the internet, and we're a jocular group of gentlemen and ladies here.

If you can't take the heat, then I guess you can just get your ass out of the kitchen.
