Hi all,

I'm using a TRX-1.
I'm in an undocumented area, so, it's not on the RadioReference database.
I'm trying to find some active frequencies that I know operate in the area.
I have been picking up digital voice traffic on 142.800, which TRX identified as DMR.

However, I have some questions:

1. The Spectrum Sweeper always stops on it, and it's just a gargling noise. However, if I tune to that frequency using the "Tune" feature, I can often hear actual talking. But 90% of the time, it shows this weird flashing scenario: Video
What does this mean?

2. Sometimes when I listen on that frequency, I hear different conversations that seem to come from completely different companies, all on that same frequency. It’s definitely not one organization using multiple talkgroups. These sound like separate entities entirely. Is that possible?

3. I only want to listen to one company, how do I program this? I don't know the details yet, but if I hear them talking again, what info must I jot down?

Thanks in advance!

Not knowing where you are located it is hard to look up the frequency in the FCC database (if USA), but the display indicates it is a DMR frequency on slot 1 using CC 6.

The OP's thread here points to South Africa. No idea what the noise is in the video sample

Are said conversations consistent or no? Meaning do you hear the full conversation or just bits and pieces of it? If the latter, this may be indicative of a trunked radio system, perhaps where subscribers lease air time and/or radios on the repeater system. I have no idea how licensing works in South Africa but you may want to use your spectrum sweeper to sweep the rest of the 142mhz band and perhaps the largest spread of VHF spectrum as possible to see if you can detect other frequencies containing similar traffic, may or may not be the same color code.

It's also pretty obvious from the username and how they said the database is mostly empty where they are. Just another example of how no one on here is capable of reading and just pastes the same cookie cutter responses to inflate post count.

If you do manage to identify anything in the future though definitely submit it to the database for your area so it helps others as well.

As for the garglings it sounds like failed decoding, trying using the arrow keys to go up and down in frequency and see if the decode rate improves.
