Hi All,
Looks like we got a new TRS in town. A new YG license was filed for a VHF trunked radio system licensed to Dunbarton, Goffstown, and Manchester has just been granted. This TRS is for police use according to the license.
License is WPKN959 (Click here for the FCC page).
Putting this in my scanner (once I figure out discover mode lol), figured you guys might find this useful.

This is Gofftown's old VHF EDACS trunk. You're seeing the grant of the renewal only. Been around since 2002, and offline for several years now.
Just a "keep the license" renewal.

It may end up being repurposed at some point.

To build on W1KNE's reply, yes this is a renewal of the license. This was a unique license being VHF EDACS trunk in it's original form.

The first thing to look at when see these is the callsign. The FCC issues callsigns in ascending 4x3 order starting with W. New issues are currently starting with WRVD###. So WPKN959 is an older license. My GMRS callsign, WPXA902 was issued in the early 2000's for comparison.

Next look at the "Admin" tab on the license. This will bring you to the history of the license. Here you will see information dating back to 1998.

Now looking at the current license status, especially frequencies, you'll see an amalgamation of emissions, which were not there originally. The license was originally licensed for EDACS and narrow-band analog use. There are now DMR and P25 emissions added. Emissions are often added, but rarely removed. The history also indicates some frequencies were added as repeater outputs, in addition to being mobile.

They also, maybe inadvertently, have created a dome around them on their frequencies by using the FB8 trunked system designation. This carries a wider footprint, often preventing other users from licensing the frequencies closer than the normal 40km footprint. Seems the FCC doesn't know they're no longer using it as a trunked system.

One last interesting note is that this license uses a mix of Public Safety Pool and Business/Industrial Pool frequencies. There is a note regarding in the Admin tab under special conditions, although 159.360 is a Public Safety Pool frequency. Two of the frequencies come from the Railroad Sub-Pool. Outside of School Districts, which can pull from one pool or the other, these normally don't mix.

Already repurposed over the years the town has broken it apart from a trunk and began using it conventionally - P25 and DMR

155.1900 R N-827 Police
170.1500 R DMR DPW

If you remember that old EDACS trunk used to get out like an FM radio station. You could hear it near Springfield MA back in the day!

And 170.1500 is actually a part 74 media use with special permission within 241.4 kM of NYC for use with public safety eligibles.
(FCC Rule 74 402(e)(8) ).
