Does anyone have any experience or comments on the Uniden ES200 software?

It looks like it has lots of the Butel features.

I have ARC250 Pro and while it is a nice package has a major problem.
My laptop only has USB ports and even their 'certified' USB to Serial convertor will not work.

Has anyone used this software?

Will it work with a USB to Serial convertor?

Thanks,
Fred

For USB support make sure you use ARC250 1.12 and the latest USB to serial device driver available at our website (assuming you are using our USB converter).

But does it work?

I tried your usb convertor and despite many emails to Butel and Scannermaster, 1.10 would not work.

I actually found that the generic usb convertor I already had would at least start the communication session while the 1F2U would not work at all.

After considerable testing, removal of drivers, re-installation of drivers and emails, I gave up and returned the usb-convertor to Scanner Master.

So, will 1.12 work? Does it require the 1F2U?

Is it also compatible with my Icom programming software?

What is your comfort level with this? My laptop is a new HP Pavilion running XP.

Thanks,
Fred

I've found that the Belden F5U409 will work where most others don't. It's the only one I have that works with my RS Pro-95. And it works with Windows XP's native drivers - I just let Windows install what it wanted the first time I plugged the converter in.

Details

I had some common usb convertor. It would at least start the dialogue and then fail.
The 1F2U would not even recognize the radio.
At their suggestion, I then purchased a pcmcia serial card adapter.
Even that would not work.
This was on a brand new HP Pavilion ZT3000.
Considerable time was spent testing, loading, unloading drivers.
Plus the battle to return the 1F2U and serial pcmica card/port.

I have downloaded the newest version. Once I locate the registration key I will test it again.

If it does not work, I will post that information immediately.

I already have assurances from Uniden that there is no usb problem with their ES200 package.

I only wish that Butel had remembered the numerous emails trying to correct this problem and notified me of the new offering.

Thanks,
Fred

ARC 250 Pro

I downloaded the latest version from Butel, got my activation keys and it works with my laptop, using an industry standard USB-Convertor cable.

I can now read/write, and go into virtual control mode using my laptop.
This was impossible before. The ARC software is impressive.

The Uniden software will simply have to wait.

Thanks,

Fred

As an FYI, check this setup out (from another post of mine here):

I just purchased a Radio Shack USB-to-Serial Adapter (RS #26-183). I have connected my BC796D via USB to a Mac running OS X 10.4.1 w/Virtual PC 7.0.1 running Windows XP SP2. After installing the RS software and connecting the scanner, I am happy to report it is working flawlessly using BuTel's ARC250 V1.12PRO.

I know some folks have been looking for a USB solution...this one works...and, I must say, mine is not the normal config either!

We're talking serious emulation and adaptation here!
