Set the squelch to minimum. You may be having simulcast distortion problems. Try turning on the attenuator or setting the scanner flat on a table and pointing the antenna different directions. Try removing the antenna and sticking a paper clip in the connector. Most of the scanners do not like simulcast systems. You have several towers in a site all transmitting the same control channel on the same frequency at the same time. The signals arrive to your scanner at slightly different times and cause problems trying to decode the control channel. By turning on the attenuator you can sometimes receive fewer towers and improve the decoding of the control channel. Presently, the only scanners built to receive simulcast systems are the Uniden SDS100 and SDS200. The Unication G4 and G5 pagers also do an excellent job. The Remtronix REM-800B antenna will give you a great improvement in signal strength for 700 and 800 MHz frequencies over the stock antenna. Unfortunately, if you are experiencing simulcast problems, more signal can make the problem worse. I will check out the database. There are supposed to be changes coming for Lenawee Co.
