Hello all, I need some help in selecting the right receiver/scanner. I and a audio engineer, I travel around the world with different bands and use multiple uhf channels for wireless mics, instruments and personal monitors. I need a scanner to keep track of those channels on a day to day basis from one city to another. In the past I've used the Icom pcr1000 which seems to work to some degree of success. I'm hoping you all could tell me what my options are. A pc based unit works well but I am not married to it. It's also helpful to have a speaker(or output jack) to hear the selected channel. We use roughly the 475mhz to 875mhz range. (Although the range is becomming more narrow with federal regulations).
What's the best? What should I stay away from? What do you think?
Thanks I appreciate all suggestions

I'm here a lot
Stick with the receiver. How about an Icom PCR 1500 , with it's Remote Head so you can walk away from the laptop once in a while ?
Scanners are a pain with lock up in the 475 MHz range.

Some pointers

Two things to remember:
  1. The RF used in wireless audio devices is not very powerful -- a scanner/receiver with high-sensitivity and an antenna tuned to the frequencies your are trying to monitor are desirable.
  2. The use of a receiver or scanner can potentially interfere with the wireless audio devices -- be sure to turn off the scanner/receiver while the mic is being used for its intended purpose.
Just wondering, what is wrong with the PCR1000? It should be fine for what you are trying to use it. Maybe you just need a better antenna.
