How the heck do members get a picture down to 8MB, so it works on your website? I can't get one that small with my digital camera. One member even has a nice short home-made video. Also, since I'm here, how do you put a Emoticon in the text?

As far as Emoticons, when posting if you look to the left of the field you type in they are all there just click on the one you want to put in, it will put it in the text for you, or you can just put them in manually like;

:D

8)

:(

:?

They should show up.

As far as making a picture smaller in Disk size. Easiest way is to take the picture in a smaller resolution; instead of 1024x1280 take it in 800x600 or 640x480. If it's pictures that you already have taken and you don't want to take them again then you will have to use some sort of photo editing software to decrease the resolution, or crop some off.

Hope this helps,
Kevin

Thanks for your replies. I have tried & tried the small picture thing. The smallest picture my camera will take is 84KB - 640 x 480 pixels. I have tried making them smaller with the software, but no luck yet. I will keep trying. How do you find animations like Homer Simpson that work? Also, when I click an Emoticon, I can't get the actual yellow face in my text.

Thanks again,

Jerry

You can't get the actual yellow face!

LOL  Just giving you a hard time. Do you Preview your message before you Submit it? When you Preview, it should go to the top of the screen and show you what it will look like (minus your signature and the subject line) when you actually post the message.

As others have said, you need to find a piece of software which will allow you to do two things; first reduce the size of the picture to a smaller pixel depth and second to optimize the output. Those animations you see are just animated GIF's which you can find all over the net.

I use Photoshop or IrfanView to resize photos.
You'll need to lower the DPI of the pic in order to help lower the file size.
IrfanView is a free program that works great. I use it because it loads fast and it's fairly easy to use to resize, change dpi, save as a different format, etc. You can have a large pic with small dpi and it will load fast on a web page. Most images on the net are 72dpi.

Give me a link to the large pic and I can change the dpi on for you...if you wish. What dimensions are you trying to make this photo? Are you trying to make it into an avatar to use on forums?

Just trying to learn a few things on the site. For instance, how you put that neat scanner display in your post. I can't see how to put the boxed text that you are replying to in your new text either. I hope I'm not being a pest, or breaking any rules.

Any colorful picture from www.helispot.com would be awesome. The largest size possible to place like your scanner picture would be ideal. I need to go shopping now & have a real busy week coming up ( Friday nights are my PC play time). I will try the program you recommended then. If I can help you in any way, let me know.

Alright, the scanner display is in my signature.
While you're on the forums here...click on Profile
and scroll down untill you see Signature and paste the url to the image
in the field like this:
Code:
[img]LinkToImageHere[/img]
You'll need to have an image hosted on the web first.
Then scroll down and make sure to put a check next to:
Always attach my signature.

As far as the boxed text...that's what's called Quoting.
When you read posts, and you want to reply to it and let it
be known that you are talking about a certain post, you'll see it
on the top right of the post,
icon_quote.gif

As far as a pic...here ya go:
01434.jpg

Goto to your profile again and scroll down to the bottom
to Avatar Control Panel and place this:
Code:
[IMG]http://img41.exs.cx/img41/4715/01434.jpg[/IMG]
in the Upload Avatar from a URL area and then hit submit.
This will put the Helio pic in the same place as my scanner pic.

Hope this all makes sense to you?
