BCD325P2/BCD996P2: Newby

I'm a newly registered member of RadioReference. I'm also waiting for delivery of a Uniden BCD996P2 scanner. I've never had a trunking scanner before so need lotsa' help. I downloaded Free Scan but found I can't open it without the scanner present and activated ...? Please advise if a newby should even mess with scanner programs or get help from someone who knows what they are doing.

You should start familiarizing yourself with sentinel, how to update scanner, create favorites lists etc. Once you are smi familiar with that , Pro-Scan would be the next software to look into.

Sentinel software is not compatible with the BCD996P2.

Freescan software was abandoned by the author many years ago, and has never had updates to handle some of the newer radio systems that your scanner can receive. If you need or want to add the DMR and/or NXDN upgrades to your BCD996P2, FreeScan doesn't properly work with DMR systems, and doesn't support NXDN at all.

Proscan's definitely the way to go. Full support for the 996p2 and many other Uniden models, regular app updates & full product support from the app developer himself right here on the forums. Can't go wrong with all of that!

Go to You Tube and should be able to find videos on operating the scanner. Have fun..
