• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Nextel uses Motorola's iDEN system and is not receivable on a scanner.

There is much writen on this that you can find by searching this site.

short answer no

long answer is same as the short answer no.

no offense to you but why does the nextel question keeps popping up all the time.

it is not possible to monitor anything on a nextel phone period.

kg4icg, i might have to disagree. Maybe not though. Im not sure quite sure so maybe you can help me. I have a bc246t handheld like the original poster has and I have been able to pick up calls (calls to other phones such as a cellphone or calling home) from people who use nextels. Im not sure what kind of nextels, but apparently they use them on their job (2 way walkie talkie radio type thing im guessing), and are able to call out on them as well.

I've also picked up several cops who call out on their radio to their home or their dispatch office...

Is this on a Motorola system? If it is, it would be an I Call.

THey must have been on a Motorola Trunked system run by Nextel.
I guess there are still a few around.
my guess is that over 99.99% of Nextel units are iDEN and not scannable.

If you can hear anything intelligible on your scanner, it's not iDEN.

iDEN uses a very different encoding from anything the BC245T understands. There are a large number of analog 2-way radio systems that were purchased by Nextel so that they could use some (or all) of the channels for their iDEN network. For a Nextel phone, this encoding format is the same whether you place an ordinary call or use the direct connect feature. BTW, "Direct Connect" is a misleading name. The phone only talks to the iDEN cell tower. The iDEN network routes the one-way call. The phone on the receiving end gets the signal from it's nearby cell tower.
