Hi
I have just got an 8600mk2 and am wondering if it is possible to alter the nfm bandwidth to 50khz for weather satellite reception on 137mhz.

Cormac,

You need to make the bandwidth 30khz if you would like to work with WX satellites. This can be done to your radio without changeing the existing bandwidth. Check out this site for more information.

I use an AR5000A which already has a 30khz filter, works great.

a little bit drastic

Hi
Thanks for the reply.I looked at the mod and i see it gives an extra band as opposed to just changing the one that is already there. As this is a mk2 i would be taking a bit of a risk so i would be better off changing the exsisting bandwidth as this is the only thing that the NFM BAND WILL BE USED FOR ON THIS RADIO.
Any ideas on doing this.
Regards

I see no reason that you could not just replace the filter with a new one provided it fits properly, but even that could be worked with. I suggest you have a professional do it if not just for the fact that if something were to go wrong he would have to fix it. I'm not sure about the 8600, but my 5000A has an aditional space for a CW filter, any filter can be placed there, and work, but will show up as the CW filter, just a minor inconvience. If you need my opinion on anything just ask.
