I see no reason that you could not just replace the filter with a new one provided it fits properly, but even that could be worked with. I suggest you have a professional do it if not just for the fact that if something were to go wrong he would have to fix it. I'm not sure about the 8600, but my 5000A has an aditional space for a CW filter, any filter can be placed there, and work, but will show up as the CW filter, just a minor inconvience. If you need my opinion on anything just ask.
