Thanks for the info-and straight from Texas too. I much appreciate the info because I dug around trying to find out its location and power, and you provided that.
Can you elaborate just a bit-what is "IFB" and why do these stations run these things? Thanks.

It is so the people in the field can be cued without the 8 second audio delay.

Believe it or not it is illegal to listen to IFB and other broadcast auxiliary stations. They are included in the Electronic Communications Privacy Act of 1986 (Title 18 US Code section 2510) the law that makes listening to cellphones illegal.

If your RF is loud enough to be heard inside my house, then I'm going to intercept the decode with my radio. Don't want me to hear it? Either lower your power or scramble it, otherwise it's fair game in my book. It's your job to keep me from hearing you, not the other way around. 'Nuff said.

Read the definition of what "readily accessible to the general public" means. Part 74 broadcast auxiliary stations are not.

18 USC § 2510 (16) “readily accessible to the general public” means, with respect to a radio communication, that such communication is not—
(A) scrambled or encrypted;
(B) transmitted using modulation techniques whose essential parameters have been withheld from the public with the intention of preserving the privacy of such communication;
(C) carried on a subcarrier or other signal subsidiary to a radio transmission;
(D) transmitted over a communication system provided by a common carrier, unless the communication is a tone only paging system communication; or
(E) transmitted on frequencies allocated under part 25, subpart D, E, or F of part 74, or part 94 of the Rules of the Federal Communications Commission, unless, in the case of a communication transmitted on a frequency allocated under part 74 that is not exclusively allocated to broadcast auxiliary services, the communication is a two-way voice communication by radio;

Pretty much seals it for me I may just call WBAP or the other one tomorrow and talk to the engineer there and see what he thinks-I sure did like that station. Texas is so cool.

Like the FCC has the time to track down folks listening to WBAP's studio transmitter link. LOL! Little Johnny down the street better be hiding under his bed as well for modifying on his Ch. 14 CB walkie talkies.

I may be wrong but I think it would be the FBI or Secret Service that would handle something like that since it is a federal law and not a FCC regulation. I haven't heard of anybody being prosecuted for anything like that except for the people that recorded politicians' phone calls and the guy that was decoding police MDT data.

A good few years ago when I was a radio op in the UK Merchant Navy I had to sign the "Secrecy of Communications" act, which more or less said that anything that I received I had to keep quiet about - I could not divulge that any such communication existed, or (of course) use any information that I had received to gain an 'advantage'.

I believe that the same applies here - you can listen to it, but you musn't tell anybody. So you're not beaking the law by listening to it, but you are by telling everybody here.....:roll:

Everything up through 10 meters open late here. Quite a few 10 meter beacons from 5 land, 11 meters was cranking hot and heavy. However, I did not hear any FM stuff on 25.990 from Texas. Nope. Not a thing on any other of those STL channels either. Too bad. I'm sure they would have been around S7 had I heard any.

They weren't coming in again last night about 10pm local. 25,910khz WBAP and whoever is on 25,990khz. Didn't hear them better than on their AM freq. of 820khz. I did hear some 10 meter beacons though out of Texas. Now, I had checked the upper bands several times during the day and never heard anything above 15 meters, so ... always spin the upper bands, even in the middle of the night. You never know what you might, or might -not-, hear. :^)
