Has anyone heard anything about an or the upgrade to the NHPD comms system? It seems as if, though, at City Hall and One Union it's "See no evil, speak no evil, hear no evil"...no matter who I have spoken to.

Anyways.
More often than not cities, and it sounds like New Haven, (and in a odd way, New Hartford too), tend to think of radios and communications infrastructure as an "afterthought" vs what it should be thought of. So many times, I have heard stories from friends at other radio shops who walk into a town or city that the radios haven't been touched in literally decades. The life safety of people (FF, EMTs, PDs, etc) rely on a "well we don't think it's important" budget item. And unfortunately it's difficult to convince many otherwise.

I would suspect there is nothing in the budget for new radios for all. Sounds like repairs only as 3 million would not be nearly enough. Since Yale CLMRN site is online and was being tested last week, I would guess that that would be the direction they go but who knows.

From Proposed budget for 2025-2026:
Public Safety Communications System/Equipment:
2616 City Bonding: $3,000,000 | Maturity: 5 Years Funds will upgrade radio transmission systems critical for Police and Fire operations. Projects include facility enhancements for security and reliability at the Dispatch Center and East Rock Communications Tower, with generator and security upgrades. Funding covers communication equipment, IT infrastructure, cameras, computers, and maintenance services to support emergency response.
201 Police Services Police Radios & Communication Equipment: 2617 City Bonding: $396,625 | Maturity: 5 Years Funds will replace aging radios and enhance communication systems to improve coverage and reliability. Investments will maintain current equipment levels, support repair needs, and optimize transmission quality across service areas.
