Due to this strong cold front moving in, there is some nice VHF ducting going on south into Illinois...just heard some ISPERN traffic from the mobile units and ISP base stations from ISP D2 and I caught most of a broadcast from ISP Springfield.

Take listen while you can...once the front moves thru, the ducting will go away fast.

Work, but even my lowest profile site was hearing this stuff and some of the guys were whining about hearing all of it in their cars...lots of signal flying around :)

Curious: Have all the WISPERN and POINT channels been updated to include the CTCSS encoding according to the state plan yet? (I sincerely doubt it--I have not heard many using tone on these yet.) Decoding was to have been optional--sure would be nice when there are openings like this.

Right at the moment I'm roughly 135 miles north northeast of Stateboy's location.Yesterday, I had the VHF beam turned to 187 degrees and was just listening to a dispatch test from Kankakee County, Illinois on 155.625 nearly 300 miles away. Fond Du Lac Sheriff (WI) is on the same frequency, but Kankakee was almost the same signal strength here using the squelch setting as a reference.

Yes they do use the PL tone around here for atleast point. The only agency that doesn't use the correct PL tone is Washington county (192.8).

No, there are quite a few counties that are not transmitting tone yet. And several, such as Washington and Richland, are transmitting "their own" tones, usually because of POINT being in an old multi channel base.

Heard a guy in Sturgeon Bay on .52 simplex (120 miles?) and someone in Menomonee, MI was talking on the Milwaukee .91 repeater.

Probably was K9KJM. He's very active when there are VHF and UHF band openings. He runs a couple repeaters up that way also.
