I know that there are auctions around the state for used Cop Cars. I am just curious if anyone knew any info about where and when they are? I heard that there is one in trenton every 2 weeks, is this true? Where is this one?

Any info would be nice.... thanks!

Be VERY Careful!! These used police vehicles have been beaten to death with an ugly stick before they get turned over for auction! Engines are usually WAY WAY over 100K and often use more oil than gasoline or they would not be getting rid of them. Budgets, being the way they are, keep these vehicle in service until they are shotskies.

On the other hand - I bought a damn near cherry 1988(?) Caprice at auction. It had been used by the county prosecutor - probably for commuting. It was a fantastic car with, as I recall, only around 60K on the clock.

The NJ State surplus property auction in Trenton used to be once a month. I used to go but the condition of most of those cars turned me off. I heard, but don't know for sure, that the NJSP now leases their cars, so they don't show up at auction.

Check for surplus property on the NJ website.

Thank you for the ideas and lookouts, but actually today, i bought one. Rutgers University was selling one, and i got it for $1800. It has 58,000 miles, and is in very nice condition. I couldn't believe it when i saw it.

I'm curious... is it legal to have the side light on the driver side of the car, also what is the rule for tinting windows in NJ?

It's perfectly OK to keep the light on the side.

And with tint, no tint other than factory applied can be on the front roll-up windows. The windshield might have a small black dash line on the left side within 4-6 inches of the top - if it does, tint cannot be applied below that line.

On your rear windows, feel free to do 5% limo to your heart's content...

In NJ tint cannot be more than 6" from the top of the winshield. Unless of course it's factory.

I'm note sure but recall that NJ is a 34% max tint.

Never been busted or harassed for the 5% limo on my Grand Prix's back windows, and it passes NJ state inspection...

Used cop cars

New Jersey police vehicle auctions are held on select Saturdays at the warehouse on Stuyvesant Avenue in Trenton off Upper Ferry Road off 295 North/95 South.

Used police vehicles are also sold just across the bridge in Morrisville Pennsylvania. I can't remember the name of the place but it is just over the Rt.1 South pay bridge into Morrisville about 1 mile past the tolls on the right. They bring 'em in clean 'em up and sell them privately. Alot of Cab companies come here.

As far as I know the is no limit to grade of window tinting on REAR SIDE windows or REAR window. This is what the tinting places tell you anyway. However, if you put tinting on your front windshield, make sure it stays at or above the tiny code mark about 6" down on the side. MVS failed a new truck of mine one time for this.

Regarding windshield tint, in motorspeak you are referring to the "AS1 line".
