here's a good question perhaps for a person with a better understanding then me.i thought that all in-flight medevac following of all nj medevac helicopters was being handled by remcs ?. i heard monoc air one on a flight before.all of their comm's went thru their communications center.i never heard a word from them on the troop c aviation trunk

I will try to take a crack at this, I think if the Medevacs are not doing an on scene job backing up - M/A for NorthStar & SouthStar try do not have to call REMCS, So more then likely they where doing an inter hospital transport not an on scene job. Maybe Joe B can chime in if he reads this he would know better then any of us.

I also thought that northstar/southstar would get first crack at trauma runs.

The other day northstar deferred to AA1 on a job near AA1's base.

Seems a little common sense might be sneaking in to this equation.

From what I have monitored over past 2 months or so is that anytime Monoc or Atlantic Air 1 are in the air wheteher for interfacility or an evac they must advise REMCS. I believe they all do FLIGHT FOLLOWINGS.

i believe that since the bill was passed by the legislator in nj,the closest ship now get's the on scene's.it does only make sense.when a human life hang's in the balance you go with the closest reliable ressource.dollar's and cent's should not be part of the decision making in a critical situation.i once had a paramedic associate of mine tell me he alway's told the patient's that said they could not afford to pay. " let us treat you.when you get the bill and can't afford it,don't pay it !".

This was an actual transport of a burn victim from the scene of an accident in Toms River to St. Barnabas. The guy was siphoning gas out of his personal watercraft and it ignited and set him on fire; first and second degree burns over 45% of his body. I don't know if they were backing up North/SouthStar or if they were first called.

MONOC is required to advise REMCS whenever they are doing either an IHOP (inter-facility) or scene job. All flight following for MONOC is done by the Control Center in Wall Twp and is monitored by the PHI Operations Center in Phoenix.

I do not believe the bill if any has been passed to mandate the closest aeromedical transport gets the job. I still hear N/Star go to Sussex County over Air 1 most of the time. Air 1 is based in Netcong just over the border of Stanhope.

Thank you John for info on MONOC :)

There was an MVA in Mantoloking yesterday, motorcyclist struck, head trauma, and SouthStar transported to JSUMC. MONOC 1 was closer, stationed at Miller Air Park in Berkeley Twp., but I don't know if they may have been unavailable or if protocol mandates SouthStar be called first.

As it seems to be for now, NorthSTAR and SouthSTAR are primary and the other programs are only called if they are not available. The proposed bill is supposed to change that but it remains to be seen.
