P25 Activity On NJITAC 6!

Alex C,

Thanks for checking. I would think since now the NJ U-TACs are P25 capable and have monitored P25 mode in use on these frequencies
(especially during the recent Fairfield incident) though I have yet to hear P25 on their I-TAC channels, the next logical step is to have this capacity.

Thanks:D

As of today I have indeed been monitoring P25 activity on NJ ITAC 6 859.7875! Now for the bad news..its encrypted:mad:!

P25 Activity On NJITAC 5 Also!

Also, this afternoon picked up P25 activity on NJITAC 5. I-TAC-5 851.77500 (Re Banded)
Though not encrypted:D. Monitored radio repair testing with number counts.
Therefore P25 in use on Both NJ ITACs 5 & 6 the later being P25 encrypted.

As to the reason why encryption is being used on this interop frequency it could be any authorized agency NJ OFFICE OF HOMELAND SECURITY is using it for their daily operations and during interops they would communicate in the clear. On the other hand some interops may require "secure" transmissions and thus agencies participating would be equipped to do so.
It has not been determined yet if encryption is being used here FULL TIME on NJ TAC6 or was it just for a short period. Time will tell.

I thought the interop were not licensed for everyday use?

Hm. I'm no expert in this, but seems strange.

Nationwide interop channels (e.g. UCALL, UTAC1-3) aren't intended for everyday use but the other ones which the state has licensed can be if they, the licensee, choose to allow it; nothing is prohibiting it.

Hi,

Are any of these frequencies used in Somerset County? Where would I find the old and new rebanded frequencies?

Tnx,

Mike

Mike,

Here is your link to RR DB NJ Common
These frequencies are licensed under the State of New Jersey - Office of Public Safety and Communication and the State Office of Homeland Security & Preparedness otherwise also known as UASI (Urban Area Security Initiative Interoperability Working Group) In North-East Region of New Jersey they cover (Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Morris, Passaic, Union counties Cities of Newark, Jersey City and New York City). However, this does not preclude NJ agencies from using these frequencies in Somerset County. Their FCC license allows them to set up any configuration necessary for reliable Interops. Also The U & I TAC frequencies are Nationwide and can be used anywhere for Interops. Note, at times depending on the situation U-TAC 400Mhz frequencies will be cross patched with 800 MHz I-Tac frequencies. Also encryption is at times used on the NJ U and I TAC frequencies. Hope this helps.

I hate to say it but the reason for encryption, especially in NJ originates right here. I have sat in on meetings discussing this very website and others offering streaming audio of what us hobbyists like to listen to. even non-law enforcment activity because the system has the option.

Also in your last post need a clarification on I-COM 866.875 (also new to me) Since it is licensed to Bergen County WPLU645 noted in the DB as primarily for their MDTs. However according to the info on their license they could also use it for voice traffic.
Thanks
Ken,

You're quite welcome.

Regarding I-Com: My (rather dated) notes show that it is/was intended for interoperability between New Jersey and New York. I am not showing any indication in my notes that I've copied any activity on the frequency in quite a while.
