I enjoy monitoring the New Jersey forest fire service on Channel 6 MAIN, 159.375 pl 179.9... DIV A-CH7, 151.415 pl 179.9 and DIV B-CH8, 151.475 pl 179.9... towers are manned today.

Always a good sign that spring is around the corner!

Yep I am up by the Burlington-Bristol Bridge and and changed my antenna configuration around and I no longer get Channel 9 but 7 and 8 are good and of course Channel 6 in Trenton. Interesting system. I think the controlled burning and the way they do it is pretty cool.

60 miles at 350 watts with the attic antenna like shooting fish in a barrel

I first discovered the NJ FFS radio system in the 70's when some of us were helping our volunteers of our small NW Bergen town put out a smoldering woods fire in some then undeveloped land behind our property. I noticed one of the firefighters was wearing a crystal controlled RCA portable scanner which was picking up a repeater carrying firefighting comms. I knew I hadn't heard that system before so I asked him about it and he was kind enough to provide me with the 151.415 and 159.375 frequencies. The 151.415 repeater came in great even when I was in my basement apartment in Belleville while in school in Newark. I still remember hearing the towers, Bearfort, Ramapo, Greystone, Catfish, Culvers...
Moving back to NJ, this time South Jersey in a couple of years so will definitely add the frequencies to my scanners.
