Hi, I'm new to the radio scene so please bear with me here. I just acquired a Uniden UM380 marine radio, brand new, so no MMSI assigned to it yet. I will be getting one before I take the boat out to Lake Erie. My question is, would I be able to "test" the unit prior to getting out on the lake, I mean from say 100 miles inshore to make sure it works? The unit has weather alerts so I'm thinking I would be at least able to pick up my areas weather on it.
