I listen to 11175 and 8992 a lot (but I wasn't for a few years). Now that I'm back on it, I hear a sound like a car or motorcycle revving up on 8992 for a few seconds then goes silent. Any idea what it is? Data of some type?

I've been hearing it as well. It's about every 3 minutes. Seems we have our own version of the Russian buzzer now.

yup thats the one! its weird too because some of the message broadcasts now seems to have almost an air raid horn type of noise in the background

I'm not sure if it's data or what it is...it's really weird that it comes every few minutes

I recognize that sound! I used to make it by pursing my lips when I was 10. Haha I just did it again and it sounds the same decades later.

That would be cool if it was data.

This signal has been being heard for the last few months, I have recordings of it going at least as far back as December of 2021 and possibly earlier. It appears to only be happening on 8992 kHz and has not been observed on other HF-GCS frequencies (4724, 11175, or 15016 kHz). It probably (almost certainly, if you look at the structure, but never say never) is not data.

There has been some discussion of what it is on various forums, including UDXF. What it is has not yet been proven, but there are several theories. One theory is that it is one node of the HF-GCS (it is not being transmitted via the network, but rather one specific transmitter site), possibly Andrews, and the node is experiencing some kind of failure or glitch.

T!

Been hearing traffic on 8992 and now I'm hearing the background horn sound that comes and goes with the voice carrier.

15016 phone USB is booming at 1341 Pacific (2141 UTC). As the day progresses rolling down to each lower frequency will help. I was able to hear it on 8992, 11175 and 15016 just now. They signed off before I could dial up 4724 kHz.

It sounds different tonight..lasting longer and doesn't sound like gears shifting. Also i hear it in the background on 11175 when a EAM was being broadcast

I have monitored most of the above mentioned "anomalies" here in South East Asia.
Having monitored 8992 and 11175 from Southern California since 1982 I can say the HF-GCS transmissions are very weak here. 8992 is being stepped on so much I had to lock it out. There were some radio checks in the last few day that were uncharacteristically loud on 11175.
