There has been bit of a traffic jam of NDBs around 379/380 kHz here lately but I clearly heard one as VAI with a long dash on 380 kHz but possibly 379. Needed lots of patience because of BRA in Asheville NC and BRU in Brazil, then mix in RUE in Arkansas (so easy to get confused with all these), but there was no mistake on hearing VAI. Problem is I can find no reference of it anywhere online. Maybe in a book that I have packed away somewhere which I haven't found yet. Does anyone know anything about this beacon?

DXing beacons used to be quite a thing but over the last couple decades, they are dropping like flies.
Everything is changing to satellite navigation aids.
VAI sounds familiar but I can't find it on any 'active' lists.
When I upgraded my avionics in my old Cessna, I kept the ADF radio just for the hobby. Later upgraded to Watkins Johnson.
You might chime in to the navtext DX group, likely someone there can help with your rogue stations.

Negative here also. I have a long list of stations I've logged
over the years including recent one's but no "VAI"

Tonight here: 378 "RJ" Roberval, QC, 379 "BRA" Ashville, NC,
384 "JB" Lumberton, NC, 385 "EMR" Augusta, Ga.

I listen frequently, and if I spot your station, will post here...

Well, I finally found my 2018 copy of Michael Oexnar's North American NDB Handbook and it lists VAL on 380 kHz from Brazil. I've heard that beacon on more than one evening so I just have to keep listening for it and get this one down.
