I see these photos of people with racks of scanners... why so many scanners?

It sounds like if you get a digital trunking scanner can't you perty much run the gambit?

Welcome to RadioReference fudtone :)

Each one would be dedicated to something specific. Different PS agencies, aviation, etc...

One may be decoding trunking data 24/7 . Another may be a Live Scanner feed.

There are many reasons for those with the means to run these type of set ups.

Welcome fudtone.

Why so many fishing poles?
Why so many cameras?
Why so many pots & pans?
Why so many RC airplanes?
Why so many guns?
Why so many baseball bats.

There have been many posts regarding this subject and you can do a search.
The basic answer is "More is better"

Have fun.

Too funny Kennrth Scary part is I believe you! The invisible screen thing... I want one!

So, for practical reasons, its basically to monitor different feq simultaneously?

How can you listen to them all?

Because everyone loves a nice rack. :)

Seriously though as others have stated I have a few scanners dedicated to different agencies and frequency bands as well as my feed scanner.

But really it's all about what you enjoy listening to. Unfortunately what I enjoy listening to changes frequently.

Because as I type this response, I am listening to my county which is on digital, and another county which is on analog. Yes, my digital does analog, but it can't simultaniously let me listen to both. That, and the fact, I can have more than one scanner:)

No scanner can do two, or, more systems at the same time. All digital scanners do analog as well. What I meant in my response, is, that I can not listen to both systems at the same time on the same scanner. It is one at a time only:) If you want to hear two, or, more systems at one time, multiple scanners are neccessary. This is generally the reason people have more than one scanner.
