This may sound like a stupid question, but I'm lost with the conventional scan. I just purchased a 996t. I am used to a pro-2036. Is there not a conventional scan that goes from 1 thru 200 or so? Or is it just a free for all. I promise I'm not just asking for the fun of it, I've searched and haven't found an answer to this.
Thanks

996 programming

The 996t is one of the new generation of Dynamic Memory Access (DMA) scanners, thus there are no defined "channels" or "banks" as we have all been accustomed to in previous scanners. Even though the specifications say up to 6000 channels, everything is arranged by "systems", "sites" and "talk groups" in the P25 digital mode and in "sites" for conventional. Quick Keys (QKS) and Lockouts help manage much as the "bank" selections have done it the past. QKS are the easiest to use as your choices are just a few keystrokes away. I keep my most used groups in QKS 0 through 9 so they are just 1 key press from active to skip.

It is best to use any of the free or paid programs to help you program and manage your "channels". Some of the free ones will even import the data from this website such as bcTool (www.bctool.org).
