Greetings Everyone

I am about to undertake a somewhat ambitious plan to document all public safety agencies and other interesting users of wireless communications within North Carolina. Using the FCC database, I am compiling a list of users based on the FCC Registration Number (FRN). Below is a partial list of users licenced to the State of North Carolina. Feel free to add to this list.

Why am I doing this? Searching by FRN is a bit easier when finding changes, etc by agency rather than by licencee. If you have any questions, please post them.

And now... the list:

North Carolina, State of:

1943000 Office of EMS
8695108 DHHS Enforcement
1916568 DOT Broadcast Radio Operations
1950088 Public Telecommunications Agency

4604864 Emergency Management Division
5075742 NCSU Raleigh – Transportation
12762142 Museum of Natural Sciences
5473939 DOT Aviation Operations
4211751 Parks and Recreation
1912013 Corrections
1916691 Dorothea Dix Hospital
1948926 State Bureau of Investigation
4604880 Alcohol Law Enforcement
7840499 Radiation Protection Division
1639071 NC State Unknown
1916543 Cherry Hospital
4548749 Wildlife Enforcement

some agencies never applied for a FRN. This is why they don't notice to renew their licenses.

The broadest list of licenses is www.cityfreq.com I guess you could use that the verify you get most of them.

I know one agency that had an expired license for over 20 years, and said they didn't even know they needed one.

I do not consider cityfreq much worth anything but a beginners reference (term reference used very loosely) because it does not tell anything about the site, the # of radios licenced or anything. It could be a repeater or just a simplex site. Leave more questions than answers. I do understand the concept of some agencies not having a FRN however, it is alot easier to search via FRN for those agencies that do have one than not...

Would you rather search for "North Carolina, State of" and sift through all the agencies, use cityfreq and hope you hit something straight, or utilize the FRN and nail it on the head right the first time....

You will find that most state agencies have FRN numbers. It wouldn't surpriise me if you find some small unit that doesn't have one.

I got from your post that you were looking at all agencies in the state, not just state agencies. There are many places that have no idea about a radio license, complying with the VHF/UHF audit or getting a FRN. They have changed addresses and not updated their licenses and when the FCC sends renewal notices they come back undelivered. They are happy in La La Land. Thats where cityfreq or an old police call book would help.
