Hello everyone. Been having a fun time with my BCD160 mobile scanner. Have been impressed with what I can pick up here in the mountains of North East GA. Was wondering if any others on this forum are from this area (Clarkesville).

How do you like the BCD160DN in northeast Georgia, especially around Clarkesville?

Since Habersham County public safety agencies are (for now) on a DMR trunked system, and the BCD160DN doesn't do trunking, are you just scanning their system conventionally?

I liked the 'idea' of the BCD160DN as a less-expensive scanner for DMR- and NXDN-specific rural areas that don't need P25 or some of the more advanced features of scanners like the SDS line, but without DMR trunking capabilities it seems like it is really handicapped in the rural counties that use a simple DMR trunking system and not much better (if better at all) than receive-only on an even-cheaper Chinese DMR radio from Amazon.

Curious your DMR experience, and how you monitor Habersham County public safety with it.

I have been very satisfied with my 160. I’m picking up all surrounding Habersham counties and also some agencies much further south. Getting schools down in Gwinnett County and also public safety down in South Georgia and I’m not sure how I’m getting those other than it may be just the way the repeaters are working. I’m kinda new to today’s scanners and the technology that comes with the various communication systems out there. I’m getting all the Habersham police, fire and EMS but I do know they’re switching over to a P 25 system next year. Even though I’m getting a lot of conventional analog I’m also getting the digital traffic as well. I’m very pleased with the aviation and can pick up a ton of Atlanta traffic as well as traffic flying over Georgia but talking with their traffic control in Hampton Georgia. If you were also in North Georgia and wanted to see what I’m picking up I would be more than happy to share my frequencies so far with you.

How’s your reception there? You’re not far from me and In similar terrain. I know I catch a lot of repeaters which helps but I also think regular reception is decent.

@Texmech
I'm in a reception sweet spot here at my house. When the leaves fall off the trees for winter I receive transmissions all the way out to Oswald dome in Tennessee. Mountains do block reception of Rabun County GA. Sometimes I drive up to Chunky Gal Gap in my county and I receive transmissions from Habersham County Ga.
