North Jersey in Toms River

For the last couple of mornings and evenings, including right now Tuesday 10:30 PM, north jersey PDs coming in full scale in Toms River including Newark, Jersey City, Orange, Clark, Summit, Sayreville & Union trunked systems, and others from Union and Essex counties, excellent listening.

Yeah, the evening weather has been great for skip. Monday night (and the Tuesday before that) I was picking up Norwich, CT from West Trenton, NJ on 220MHz. Was odd to hear a net on our repeater frequency which wasn't anyone we knew, and then suddenly we hear people talking about locations in CT.

Skip was strong enough that some people, even fairly close, couldn't get the repeater to key up for them - the skip signal was too strong and overrode them.

When I first got my ticket, thats what I enjoyed about 6 meters, when the band was open you never knew who you would here. I got vucc and worked 49 states, then I lost interest, sold the ft847, and hooked up the antennas to the scanners and just enjoy listening to what's going on. Being retired gives me time to listen to the scanner and listening to doo wop music on live365.com on the internet. Only in America, grin...

a few week's ago during a band opening i did wildwood pd l/c and lenox mass. l/c
from eastern/central monmouth county.r.s. large discone mounted about 15' up in the attic connected to a bc785d.

I've have alot of luck with a 7' fiberglass tri-band antenna by Diamond, a commercial uhf (small) discone and a 800 mhz (small) beam up about 25' hooked to 3 different scanners. With all that, I can't even listen to my own town, apco 25 (encrypted). Like Toms River really has to encrypt.

Yea, I agree that this seems like overkill. I could see having a secure channel, but not as a primary channel.
