With the Northstar Commuter Rail Service in Minnesota the news and facing potential closure, I am wondering about radio usage.
I gather from this that the AAR frequencies they use are 161.160 and 161.385. Do they get track warrants by voice radio for each trip?
Would there necessarily be radio traffic when they switch from 161.160 to 161.385? (It looks like that is in the Fridley area. Northtown area?)
The one list here makes it look like 161.385 is westbound and 161.160 is eastbound. Is that accurate?
Is it possible that a rider monitoring those frequencies might only hear defect detectors during the trip?
(I read that it utilizes BNSF Railway's tracks and right-of-way, with BNSF staff operating the trains.)
