I'm hearing data on 471.725 which doesn't appear to be P25. Does anyone know what it is (MDTs, paging, etc)?

Although it's possible, I'd be surprised if they were using a proprietary channel for data as most departments in this area are on or moving to mobile broadband. You can't really get enough data speed to make the in car computer much more than a dumb terminal unless you have mobile broadband. I suppose it's possible that it's for Automatic Vehicle Location data, but I don't know that they have that and most systems can send that over broadband as well.

Thanks Chris, I should have checked the FCC database. The frequency is listed in the current ScannerMaster MA/NH/RI guide as Police Future Use, but the book isn't always accurate (and it's a bit out of date now).

So if it is a DPW frequence, I wonder what they are using it for since it is listed as a mobile repeater and I've only heard bursts of data. I suppose it could be P25 and my 396xt just isn't decoding it. I'll have to listen some more and see if there is a pattern to the bursts (usually a few seconds in length).

I take that back, I just looked up my towns PD (Sharon, 483.1375) and it is also listed as "PW", so I guess that covers just about any town service (PD, FD, PW, etc). I had thought at one time there was a "PS" Public Safety category but it now looks like they are all lumped together.

So I'm back to the PD theory!
